Taylor County’s CDAC, on March 30, recommended setting a total antlerless harvest quota of 2,750 deer in the county for the 2022 season. Of that total, a harvest of 2,500 was recommended for private lands, while 250 would be on public lands. Using a projected success rate of 25%, 10,000 bonus antlerless authorizations are proposed for private land hunting. Using a projected success rate of 21%, there are 1,200 tags proposed for public land.

The council will review the results of public survey that was available on the Department of Natural Resources website April 9-17. Those results and public comments are posted at https:// dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/CDACFind.aspx. Choose Taylor County, or any county you’d like, in the dropdown box.

Overall, 145 total responses were received for Taylor County with the overall antlerless harvest goal recommendation being supported 94-46, the private land permit numbers being supported 100-34 and the public land permit numbers being a near even split with 68 supporting and 67 opposing. Of those 67 opposing, 45 said the permit numbers were too high and 22 said they were too low.

The DNR will bring its recommendations for the 2022 season to the Natural Resources Board in the summer.
