Rib Lake gets outdoor season off to a decent start at Edgar

With the sun finally showing on Monday, the Rib Lake track and field squads were able to get into the great outdoors at the Edgar Season Opener and got a fifthplace finish from the girls and a seventhplace finish from the boys in the eightteam meet.
While scoring 77 points, the girls didn’t win any events but they racked up several top fives for a solid first outdoor showing of the spring.
Senior Tia Bube scored in four different events, led by her second-place finish in the discus. She hit a distance of 85 feet, 9 inches to only trail Edgar’s Kyra Anderson (99-5). Senior Hannah Schuh added two points with a seventh-place throw of 67-6 and Grace Artz was 14th at 50-5 in their first chance to compete in the event this spring.
Bube was third in the shot put competition, getting off a season-best throw of 31-5. She was just an inch behind Anderson and 2.5 inches behind winner Karlee Weavers of Three Lakes-Phelps. Senior Lauren Pelnis competed for the first time this spring for Rib Lake and took fifth at 30-5.25, while Schuh again took seventh at 26-5. Artz was 14th at 22-3.
Bube took fourth in her first 100-meter high hurdles race of the spring with a time of 20.63 seconds and she was seventh in the high jump, clearing a season-best 4-2, the same height as teammate Megan Yanko, who finished sixth.
Sophomore Olivia Lopez came close to winning the triple jump, going 31-2.75 to fall just 1.25 inches behind winner Kassidee Linssen of Laona-Wabeno. Lopez took fifth in the long jump at 13-6, 8.5 inches behind winner Brooke Imhoff of Edgar, while Pelnis was 10th at 12-3.5.
Lopez sprinted to third place in her first 100-meter dash of the year, posting a time of 13.93 seconds that put her just behind Edgar’s Morgan Schnelle (13.3) and Kara Sowinske (13.67) of Three Lakes-Phelps. Megan Yanko added a seventhplace time of 14.8 seconds, while Ryanna Schrader was 16th at 15.78 seconds.
Kylee Goodrich scored 10 points thanks to a third-place finish in the 800-meter run at 2:53.35 and a fifth-place time of 6:27.43 in the 1,600-meter run. Both times were significantly improved from indoor races at those distances. Grace Dolan of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption won the 800 in 2:46.46, while Assumption’s Ainara Sainz de Rozas won the 1,600 in 5:57.3. Czahor was eighth for Rib Lake in the 800 at 3:08.02, Amy Espinoza was ninth in 3:12.42 and Sofia Fraschi was 12th in 3:58.5.
Czahor secured fifth place in the 400-meter dash in 1:17.27, while Espinoza (1:21.15) and Fraschi (1:30.16) were seventh and eighth.
Lopez, Amber Yanko, Megan Yanko and Pelnis teamed up to take third in the 400-meter relay at 56.28 seconds. They trailed Edgar (55.72) and Assumption (56.07) while beating Spencer (1:06.29).
Abigail Hebda (37.08) and Erin Bohmbach (41.61) were 18th and 20th in the 200-meter dash.
Edgar easily won the girls meet with 163 points, followed by Assumption (106), Newman Catholic (95), Three Lakes-Phelps (85), Rib Lake (77), Laona-Wabeno (31), Spencer (20), Prentice (3).
Boys meet
Ryan Buehler continued to score for the Redmen in distance events and Rib Lake got off to solid outdoor starts in the sprint relays during Monday’s meet.
Buehler was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.57 that put him just 1.9 seconds behind winner Blake Lobner of Assumption. Buehler’s cross country teammate, Adam Granberg of Prentice, was third in 2:22.57 and Rib Lake’s Elijah Scott took 10th in 2:43.28.
Buehler later placed third in the 3,200-meter race at 11:38.82, trailing Adisun Romprey of Laona-Wabeno (11:18.78) and Nick Townsend of Newman (11:22.47). Buehler was well ahead of fourth-place finisher Jesse Prasser of Laona-Wabeno (12:04.09) and his two times from the day were both improved over his indoor marks. Scott, meanwhile, added a sixth-place time of 5:44.01 in the 1,600-meter run that cut over 20 seconds from his indoor time at Merrill from March 29.
Ethan Keiser, Ben Petersen, Noah Wiitala and Dominick Classen took second in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:43.21. Edgar was the only team faster than Rib Lake in 1:38.67. Assumption (1:44.31), Spencer (1:44.67) and Newman Catholic (1:47.06) were third through fifth.
In the 400-meter relay, Keiser, Damien Peterson, Wiitala and Classen finished third in 49.39 seconds, trailing Edgar (46.52) and Spencer (47.26) and beating Newman Catholic (52.76).
Classen scored three points by placing sixth in the 200-meter dash at 25.59 seconds, 1.51 seconds behind winner Kohlbe Weisenberger of Edgar. Petersen was 14th for Rib Lake in 26.87 seconds. Keiser was 10th in the 100-meter dash at 12.62 seconds. Trevin Walkowski of Three Lakes-Phelps won in 11.55 seconds.
Theo Robisch led Rib Lake by scoring in both horizontal jumps. He took fifth out of 24 long jumpers with a season-best jump of 17-2, while Peterson was 14th with a 15-foot jump and Xavier Johnson was 20th at 13-3. In the triple jump, Robisch went 35-2 for his second-best jump so far of the spring and a sixth-place finish. Peterson was 11th at 29-10.25 and Johnson tied for 13th at 25-6.75.
Edgar cruised to the team victory with 169 points, followed by Newman Catholic (86), Spencer (77), Prentice (71), Assumption (65), Three Lakes-Phelps (57), Rib Lake (41) and Laona-Wabeno (30).
Rib Lake was scheduled to compete at Marathon today, Thursday, but the meet was canceled. The next meet on the schedule is Tuesday at Chequamegon.
