Area track and field teams get first action of season

The Loyal girls took first while the Spencer boys finished second at the track and field teams’ first meet of the season, held indoors at the Neillsville High School on March 22. Since the meet was ran on an indoor track, the length of each race was different than its outdoor counterpart, however, the invite provided each team with the experience needed to help their athletes get started for the season.

The three relay teams that ran at Neillsville for the Loyal girls each finished in first place. The 2-lap (4x234m) relay team was made up of Alyssia Zvolena, Sheila Tellock, Autumn Zvolena and Aubre Robida and was completed by the group in 2:34.59. Alyssia Zvolena, Tellock and Robida ran with Leah Scherer in the 4x117m relay, winning the race with a time of 1:09.47. The 12-lap (4x702m) relay was ran by Alyssia Zvolena, Tellock, Lisa Steffens and Abrial Kubista in 4:24.23.

The Greenwood girls track team also competed at Neillsville. The Indian girls had three relay teams compete and place. The girls 12-lap (4x702m) relay team, made up of Kia Abel, Bria Thomas, Kayla Grambsch and Sarah Reiff, took third place with a time of 4:40.03. Finishing in 4th place with a time of 2:51.68 was the 2-lap (4x234m) relay team of Lauren Ingold, Candela Soto, Grambsch and Thomas. The 4X117m relay team of Ingold, Ricarda Goetze, Ella Reimer and Alyseah Anderson took sixth place with a time of 1:23.72.

Individual results for the Greenwood girls are as follows: Lauren Ingold, 3rd, shot put, 29’3.5”; Katlund Etlicher, 3rd, 1600m run, 7:32.54, 4th, 800m run, 3:30.88; Sarah Reiff, 6th, shot put, 25’9”, 7th, 45m dash, 7.29, 16th, long jump, 9’7”; Ella Reimer, 17th, long jump, 8’11.75”.

The Spencer girls track team had three first-place finishes. Emily Wehrman took two of those wins for the team, finishing first in the 1600m run (7:16.06) and in the 800m run (3:20.88). Leah Zastrow took first in the pole vault, reaching a height of 11’ and also took third in the long jump (14’9”). The Rocket girls also had one relay team compete in the 4x234m relay which took 5th with a time of 2:59.22.

Other individual results for the Spencer girls are as follows: Aurora Porcu, 6th, 800m run, 4:44.65; Laycee Glover, 6th, 468m run, 1:41.16, 7th, 234m run, 44.76; Jadyn Zschernitz, 8th, shot put, 23’1.5”; Elisha Blanchard, 9th, shot put, 21’11.5”; Theresa Knecht, 9th, 234m run, 46.38, 15th, long jump, 10’1.5”; Alyssa Kobs, 10th, shot put, 21’11”; Sabrina Alessio, 11th, 234m run, 54.03; Daniela Pallares Guzman, 13th, long jump, 10’9.25”.

The Granton girls track team also competed at the Neillsville invite. The Bulldogs had one relay team compete in the 4x117m relay. Jordan Berg, Ella Piskow, Alexis Pongratz and Olivia Piskow ran the race in 1:22.26 to take fifth.

With numerous second and third placings among the Spencer boys, the Rockets managed to take second place as a team at Neillsville on March 22. Two relay teams placed for the boys. Taking first place was the 4x117m relay team of Will Gorst, Noah Schultz, Landon Behselich and Elliot Bauer, which finished in 1:05.69. The same group ran the 4x234m relay, which they completed in 2:20.63 to take second.

The Loyal boys track team had a solid number of athletes compete and finish. Taking fourth place was the 4x702m relay team of Parker Smith, Bo Bogdonovich, Ayden Collins and Connor Genteman. They ran a 4:07.89 to earn the placing.

The Greenwood boys team had several second and third place finishes among its individuals and relay teams at the invite. Taking third place was the 4x702m relay team of Cody Eckes, Ashtin Palms, Christian Thomas and Rogan Travis. They completed the race in 3:56.39 for the placing.

The Granton boys had one athlete compete and place. Alex Gardner took fourth place in the 234m run, running a 36.46.

There were six teams that participated in the meet in Neillsville. For the girls, Loyal took first place with 170 points, finishing ahead of Neillsville (88), Gilman (58), Spencer, which placed fourth with 42 points, Greenwood, which placed fifth with 33 points, and Granton which took sixth with 23 points. In the boys competition, Neillsville took first with 121 points while Spencer placed second with 86 points. Greenwood took third with 68.5 points and Loyal took fourth with 58.5 points. Gilman was fifth (51) and Granton earned four points to finish sixth.
