Raiders 2nd, Redmen 7th in boys invite

Medford’s Joe Sullivan and Rib Lake’s Ryan Buehler were individual winners at Tuesday’s 10-team Marshfield Tiger Boys Indoor Invitational.
The meet was the first of the season for the Rib Lake boys, who placed seventh, while the Raiders took second with 84 points in their second meet of the indoor season.
Marshfield won five events and scored 100.5 points to win its home meet. Owen-Withee was third with 68.5 points, followed by Stratford (56.5), Colby (54), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (53), Rib Lake (40), Pittsville (37), Mosinee (32.5) and Abbotsford (32).
Sullivan, who did not attend Medford’s first meet at Wausau West last Thursday, got his first win of 2022 in the high jump competition. He got over the bar at 5 feet, 10 inches and won a tiebreaker with Pittsville’s Jordan Denniston for the top spot. Raider freshman Evan Paul took seventh by clearing 5 feet.
Sullivan added a win in the JV triple jump with a distance of 37-2, while Rib Lake’s Xavier Johnson was second at 28-11. Paul added six third-place points in the varsity long jump with a leap of 16-9.25, while Raider Jose Herrera was sixth at 15-4. Rib Lake’s Damien Peterson (14-1.5) and Theo Robisch (11-2.75) were 11th and 14th.
Buehler’s win for the Redmen came in the two-mile run with a time of 12:02.94. He easily beat Marshfield’s Mason Horn (12:46.25). Medford scored 14 key points in the mile run with juniors Zach Rudolph and Vincent Seidel taking second and third in 5:23.24 and 5:25.84, respectively. Rib Lake freshman Elijah Scott was 11th at 6:03.02 in a race won by Marshfield’s Henry Hoerneman in 4:54.62.
The Raiders also got a 12-point chunk in the pole vault with sophomore Adam Kowalski and freshman Gage Losiewicz both clearing 8-6. Kowalski got the second- place points behind winner Logan Amacher of Owen-Withee (9-6), while Losiewicz got fourth.
Medford mile relay team of Rudolph, Josh Clark, Isaac Kautzer and Losiewicz edged Rib Lake by 0.56 seconds in a tight race for second place. The Raiders finished in 4:11.31, while the Redmen’s team of Dominick Classen, Ben Petersen, Donovan Sutherland and Robisch came in at 4:11.87. Wittenberg-Birnamwood won the race in 4:03.41.
Rib Lake’s team of Noah Wiitala, Sutherland, Peterson and Classen nearly won the four-lap relay with its secondplace time of 1:17.55. Owen-Withee was just 0.37 seconds faster, while Medford’s Cory Lindahl, Herrera, Anakin Stokes and Paul were sixth in 1:19.45.
Medford’s Clark, Silas Wipf, Anthony Seidel and Vincent Seidel took third in the two-mile relay at 10:07.87 behind Marshfield (9:21.4) and Stratford (9:47.08).
There was a strong local contingent in the triple jump. Robisch got the thirdplace points at 34-3, just ahead of Vincent Seidel, who went 33-1.75. Clark was sixth for the Raiders at 29-6.75 and Damien Peterson got seventh for the Redmen at 29-6.
Also for Medford, Lindahl was fourth in the 60-yard hurdles at 10.5 seconds, Herrera was seventh in the 440-yard dash in 1:05.77 and Gatlin Piller was 10th in 1:09.68 and Wipf was seventh in the 880-yard run at 2:26.88 while Losiewicz was 10th at 2:31.88. Stokes took seventh in the 220-yard dash at 26.75 seconds, while Borman was 13th in 29.0 seconds and senior Jake Seifert took eighth in the shot put at 37-8, while Logan Kawa was 13th at 33-5. Kautzer was 10th in the 60-yard dash at 7.15 seconds and Stokes was 12th at 7.24 seconds.
Additionally for Rib Lake, Petersen was fourth in the 440-yard dash with his time of 1:05.1 and Classen finished sixth in the 60-yard dash at 6.99 seconds with Ethan Keiser adding a 15th-place time of 7.42 seconds. Buehler took the eighthplace point in the 880-yard run at 2:27.12 and Scott was 15th at 2:55.96, while Ethan Keiser (28.34) and Petersen (28.56) were 11th and 12th in the 220-yard dash.
Medford’s Jude Stark was the JV pole vault champion by clearing 9 feet. Vincent Seidel (14-10.5) and Lindahl (14-9.25) were sixth and seventh in the long jump and the team of Borman, Medina Fuentes, Kowalski and Kautzer took third in the JV four-lap relay at 1:23.24 behind Marshfield A (1:19.77) and B (1:21.75).
Both Medford and Rib Lake will be back in Marshfield today, Thursday, for the girls indoor invitational. Medford also will be at the UW-Stout Large School Northern Badger Invitational on Friday. The Raiders’ numbers will be down this week due to band and choir trips.
Rib Lake is at Merrill next week for a boys meet Tuesday and a girls meet March 31.
