Koeller nets 1,000 career points
Marathon senior guard Jaden Koeller easily achieved 1,000 career points in Thursday’s road game against Rib Lake. He only needed four points heading into the game and he scored a game-high 23 points in the Red Raiders’ 82-44 victory against the Redmen.
Jaden Koeller, the son of Gloria Litzer and Brian Koeller, becomes the 10th boys basketball player in Marathon history to obtain 1,000 career points.
“Achieving 1,000 points has always been a goal of mine ever since I was a little, along with trying to make varsity as a freshman,” Jaden Koeller said.
He has accomplished both of those goals because he’s a four-year varsity basketball player. Jaden Koeller joins a prestigious list of 1,000-point scorers in Marathon boys basketball history. Cody Hanke is the Red Raiders’ all-time leading scorer with 1,415 points, followed by Dennis Cramer with 1,367 and Carter Hanke with 1,270. Koeller still stays in contact with his former teammate, Carter Hanke, who was a senior when Koeller was a freshman.
“It is special to be in the 1,000-career points club with them,” Jaden Koeller said. “Carter Hanke was a great player and he helped show me the way my freshman year. I learned from him to never press and just let the game come to me.”
Other Marathon boys basketball players on the 1,000-career points list include Tim Sonnentag with 1,198, Joe Westfall 1,101, Pat Buchberger 1,100, Paul Syron 1,052, Scott Klimek 1,039 and Andrew Huss 1,035. Jaden Koeller currently has 1,029 career points after scoring 10 points in Marathon’s 59-39 home loss to Edgar on Tuesday.
Red Raider boys basketball players who fell just shy of reaching 1,000 career points are Randy Krautkramer with 996, Collin Seubert 985 and Jay Prihoda 960.
Sophomore Tyler Underwood contributed 14 points in Marathon’s win against Rib Lake. Sophomore Grant Warren added 12 points and senior Ben Robbins had 10.
Jaden Koeller was the lone Marathon player to reach double-digit scoring with 10 points in Marathon’s 20-point defeat to Edgar on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders suffered their first loss this season and now have a 3-1 record in the Marawood South Conference and a 4-1 overall record.
Edgar improves to 2-1 in the Marawood South and 3-1 overall this season. Marathon will attempt to get back on track at home this Friday, Dec. 17, against undefeated Stratford.
