Athens has unblemished record
Marathon protects its home court
The Athens varsity girls basketball team downed Colby, 53-35, Tuesday on the road to remain undefeated with a 7-0 record this season.
Sophomore Addison Lavicka led the Bluejays with 15 points, followed by sophomore Sophia Coker with 13 and senior McKennzie Schug with 10. Sophia Coker paced Athens with 15 rebounds and five steals while Lavicka added four steals in the win.
Athens returns to action this Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Phillips in a pivotal Marawood North Conference showdown that could eventually determine which team wins the conference title this season. Athens has a 4-0 North record and Phillips is 3-0 in the conference. Phillips has a 4-1 overall record with its lone defeat coming to Ladysmith this season.
Red Raiers down Tigers
Marathonâs varsity girls basketball team beat Stratford, 58-38, on Dec. 7 at home. The Red Raiders improve their record to 2-1 in the Marawood South Conference and 3-2 overall this sea- son.
Senior guard Allison Wokatsch scored a game-high 17 points while junior guard Kali Prihoda added 10. Seniors Jenna Aschbrenner and Laci Hoeksema chipped in eight points each. Wokatsch paced the Red Raiders with seven rebounds, while Aschbrenner and Kali Prihoda had five steals apiece.
Marathon head coach Jeff Schneider was excited about his teamâs conference victory. âSuper thrilled for our girls for playing well tonight because they have been working hard in practices so far this season,â Schneider said. âWe have improved our defense and it showed in the second half against Stratford by only giving up 12 points.â
Marathon plays two home games beginning this Thursday, Dec. 16, against Wausau Newman and this Monday, Dec. 20, against Colby.
Wildcats fall to Royals
Edgarâs varsity girls basketball team fell to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 45-29, on Dec. 7 at home. The Wildcats now have a 2-2 record in the Marawood South Conference and are 4-2 overall this season.
Junior Reagan Borchardt led Edgar with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Assumption, while senior Skylee Manecki paced the Wildcats with four steals. Edgar returns to action this Thursday, Dec. 16, at Stratford.
