Gilman’s Gracie Tallier mentioned in All-State vote
GILMAN VOLLEYBALL
Just two years since Gilman got two honorable mention picks, the Pirates got another one last week with junior Gracie Tallier receiving the honor with the announcement of the 2021 Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Division 4 team.
Tallier’s recognition follows a firstteam All-Eastern Cloverbelt Conference selection as an all-around performer for the Pirates during their 5-2 season in the league and 12-14 year overall.
Offensively, Tallier recorded 72 kills in seven conference matches and 187 overall to lead the Pirates. Most of those kills came from the left side of Gilman’s offensive attack. She also approached 50 aces for the season with her aggressive jump serves.
Defensively, Tallier compiled 111 digs in conference play and 275 overall in Gilman’s 25 matches.
A total of 29 Division 4 players received honorable mention, including one more from the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference, Courtney Sommer, a sophomore from Columbus Catholic. The conference’s Player of the Year, Dorci Walker of Columbus Catholic, was a unanimous first-team pick for the Division 4 All-State squad.
Junior Ellie Gustafson of Monticello, junior Marley Hughes of McDonell Central, senior Elizabeth Krawze of Wabeno-Laona, senior Kara Sowinski of Three Lakes, senior Kylie Struble of Stevens Point Pacelli and junior Anika Torgerson of Turtle Lake also were unanimous first-team selections. Potosi senior Kylie Reuter, Three Lakes senior Mari Szews and Central Wisconsin Christian junior Kaitlyn Vander Werff also made the team.
Three more players from the state championship team from McDonell got honorable mention. They are senior Destiny Baughman, senior Lauryn Deetz and senior Kaitlyn Ortmann.
