Loyal-Greenwood runners finish regular season
The Loyal-Greenwood cross country teams participated in their last two regular season meets this past week, first running at Black River Falls on Oct. 5 and again on Oct. 9 at Arcadia. The runners continued to show consistency in their times at both meets, which bodes well for their Cloverbelt Conference run at Fall Creek on Oct. 16.
At Black River Falls, the Loyal-Greenwood boys took sixth while the girls team placed seventh overall. In the boys race, the team competed in a field of 81 runners. Finishing first for the Greyhounds in the race was Avrey Horvath, who ran an 18:47.7 to take 13th. Connor Genteman finished just two places later in 15th with a time of 18:54.8. A few minutes later, Ashtin Palms crossed the finish line, taking 36th with a time of 20:22.9. Cody Eckes ran a 21:44.2 to finish in 54th and Micah Kayhart took 69th with a time of 23:55.
The girls had a slightly smaller field of runners at Black River Falls, running the race with 78 participants. Addison Davidson came through the finish at the 24:32.8 mark to lead the Greyhound girls, taking 30th place. Aubre Robida finished next, taking 44th with a time of 25:34.4. Taking 45th place was Leah Scherer, who ran a 25:46.5 and Halle Aumann ran a 25:53.4 to finish in 47th. Katlund Etlicher took 49th place with a time of 26:28.7, Lisa Steffens finished with a time of 27:40 to place 56th, and Candela Sota took 60th with a time of 28:57.9 The Loyal-Greenwood team earned 139 points to take sixth place, finishing ahead of Black River Falls (179), Mosinee (184) and Alma Center Lincoln, Durand, Eleva-Strum and Neillsville-Granton which all fielded incomplete boys teams. Other teams competing at the invite were Stanley-Boyd (131), Chippewa Valley (123), Ellsworth (87), Mauston (66) and West Salem (38).
For the girls, Loyal-Greenwood took seventh place with 166 points to beat Alma Center Lincoln (224) and Black River Falls, Eleva-Strum, Neillsville-Granton and Stanley-Boyd, which all fielded incomplete girls teams. Chippewa Valley was sixth (161), Ellsworth took fifth (143), Mauston was fourth (110), Durand was third (72), Mosinee took second (43) and West Salem won the invite with 37 points.
The Greyhounds competed next at Arcadia on Oct. 9, with the boys team competing as individuals because they only had four runners at the race. In the boys race, the athletes ran in a field of 114 runners. Connor Genteman was the first runner to finish the course, taking eighth place overall with a time of 18:40.7. Avrey Horvath was next, taking 15th with a time of 19:12.9. Ashtin Palms ran a 22:04 to take 63rd and Micah Kayhart ran a 22:39.1 to

Seven girls ran for Loyal-Greenwood on Oct. 9, competing in a field of 83 runners. Addison Davidson was the first runner to finish, taking 28th with her time of 24:56.1. Halle Aumann finished at the 25:38.8 mark to take 35th and Leah Scherer finished in 46th place with a time of 25:57.7. Taking 49th place was Maci Bogdonovich, who finished the race with a time of 26:16 and Katlund Etlicher ran a 26:38 for 55th. Aubre Robida ran a 26:46.7 that placed her in 57th and Lisa Steffens took 70th with her time of 28:49.9.
The Loyal-Greenwood boys did not have enough runners to field a team at Arcadia, but the girls team took seventh place overall with 154 points. Other teams competing at the invite were Chippewa Valley (215), Melrose-Mindoro (149), Boyceville (144), Bangor (118), Aquinas (99), Westby (47) and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (41).
