Greyhound boys second, girls third at Spencer cross country meet
The Loyal-Greenwood boys took second place and the girls took third place as a team while competing at the Spencer home cross country invitational at Frey Field on Sept. 23. The team had two top-10 finishes from the boys and improved times from members of both the boys and the girls teams to earn their team placings.
The boys ran in a field of 54 runners at Spencer. Avrey Horvath and Connor Genteman were neck-and-neck for a majority of the race, spacing out some as they came to the finish. Horvath placed fifth overall with a time of 18:17.3 while Genteman took sixth with a time of 18:28.3.
Crossing the finish line in 20:00.5 was Ashtin Palms, with his time good enough for him to place 18th. Cody Eckes came through a short time later, taking 25th with his time of 20:19.7. Micah Kayhart ran a 22:49.6 to take 39th and Dylan Eckes finished in 41st place with a time of 23:08.
In the girls race, the Greyhounds competed in a field of 63 runners. Addison Davidson was the first Loyal-Greenwood runner to finish the 5,000-meter course, taking 14th with a time of 23:33.9. Leah Scherer and Aubre Robida came through next, with Scherer running a 25:00.2 for 25th and Robida taking 26th with her time of 25:05.
Taking 28th place was Halle Aumann, who ran a 25:13.6. Katlund Etlicher ran a 25:52.9 to take 34th place, Lisa Steffens finished the race in 27:37.2 to place 48th and Candela Sota placed 49th with a time of 28:06.1.
The Spencer cross country team also competed at their home invitational, with the girls team taking fifth. Six individuals ran for the Rocket girls, and leading the way was Emily Wehrman, who placed 27th overall with a time of 25:12.1. Theresa Knecht was the next runner to complete the course for the girls, taking 33rd with a time of 25:45.2.
Ai Takamizawa and Juncal Gasalla were the next runners to finish for Spencer. Takamizawa ran a 26:44.1, earning 41st place, while Gasalla took 42nd, running a 26:59.9. Aurora Porcu took 58th with a time of 31:24.8 and Daniela Guzman finished in 60th with a time of 33:58.7.
Three boys competed for Spencer at Frey Field, taking part in the race as individual runners as they didn’t have the numbers for a team. Malachai Anderson had the best result from the group, taking 20th overall with a time of 20:09.8. Levi Anderson ran a 23:13 to earn 43rd place and Andrew Sieracki finished in 24:41 to take 51st.
Five teams scored points in both the boys and the girls races. For the boys, Loyal-Greenwood took second place with 66 points, finishing behind Phillips, which won the boys race with 32 points. Colby-Abbotsford was third (70), Columbus Catholic took fourth (88) and Thorp was fifth (100).
For the girls, Spencer finished fifth with 125 points. Thorp was fourth (98) and Loyal-Greenwood took third with 90 points. Phillips placed second (42) and Colby won the girls race with 22 points.
