Area teams run at two Marshfield meets
Between a few days time, the Loyal-Greenwood boys cross country team saw vast improvements in their racing times as they competed twice at Marshfield’s Wildwood Park. The girls team, meanwhile, remained steady over the course of the two meets.
The Greyhounds first competed at Marshfield on Sept. 4 against a small field of runners. In the boys race, 39 runners took off from the starting line with Avrey Horvath leading the Loyal-Greenwood boys back to the finish, taking seventh place overall with his 19:22.9 time.
Ashtin Palms was the second runner to complete the course for the Greyhounds, running a 21:20.6 for 23rd. Cody Eckes was next, taking 28th place by crossing the finish at the 22:24.9 mark. Dylan Eckes followed a minute later (23:21.1) to take 30th and Micah Kayhart took 31st with a time of 23:28.
In the girls race, 43 runners took to the field, with the members of the Loyal-Greenwood team once again putting up times that were very close to each other. Addison Davidson started it off by finishing at the 25:01.4 mark, taking sixth. Aubre Robida came after her at 25:26.4 to take 11th and Leah Scherer finished the race soon after (25:34.6) to take 15th. Finishing in 16th place with a time of 25:56.1 was Halle Aumann, while Maci Bogdonovich took 19th place with a time of 26:30. Katlund Etlicher ran a 27:13.4 for 24th and Lisa Steffens took 30th with a time of 28:12.1.
As a team, the Loyal-Greenwood boys took fifth place on Sept. 4 with 101 points, finishing behind Augusta (88), Columbus Catholic (83), Chequamegon (55), and McDonell (38). Edgar, Neillsville-Granton and Owen-Withee fielded incomplete boys teams.
For the girls, Loyal-Greenwood earned 67 points to take second place overall, finishing behind Chequamegon (36). Other teams scoring points at the invite were Edgar (69), Augusta (72), McDonell (114) and Neillsville-Granton (161). Columbus Catholic and Owen-Withee fielded incomplete girls teams. The Loyal-Greenwood team came back to Marshfield to compete again on Sept. 7. There, they faced a much larger field of teams while still making improvements to their times. In the boys race, 77 runners competed on the course, with Avrey Horvath taking 13th place to lead the Greyhounds, crossing the finish in 18:37.5.
Connor Genteman was the next runner to finish after a brief hiatus from competition. He took 18th place with a time of 18:54.9. Coming in a couple minutes later was Ashtin Palms, who ran a 21:01.8 for 41st. Taking 48th place with his 21:35.9 time was Cody Eckes, and Micah Kayhart took 59th by running a 23:08.9. Dylan Eckes was the last runner to finish for Loyal-Greenwood, taking 70th with a time of 24:21.2.
In the girls race, the team had to compete in a field of 64 runners. Addison Davidson was the first to cross the finish line, taking 31st place with a time of 25:03. Aubre Robida and Halle Aumann finished next, just seconds apart. Robida ran a 25:35.9 for 37th and Aumann took 38th with her 25:36.7 time.
Leah Scherer and Maci Bogdonovich also finished as a pair, with Scherer taking 41st with a time of 25:44.2 and Bogdonovich running a 25:58 for 42nd. Katlund Etlicher ran a 27:10.7 to place 52nd and Lisa Steffens finished in 59th place with her time of 28:59.8.
As a team, the Loyal-Greenwood boys took seventh place with 160 points, finishing ahead of Columbus Catholic (167), Mosinee (175), Black River Falls (178) and Athens, John Edwards, Nekoosa, and Spencer which all fielded incomplete boys teams. Other teams placing at the invite on Sept. 7 were Tomah (159), Pittsville (151), Sparta (128), Wisconsin Rapids (123), Marathon (113) and Marshfield (34).
The Loyal-Greenwood girls also took seventh place overall with 182 points, finishing ahead of Pittsville (243), and Black River Falls, Columbus Catholic, Nekoosa and Spencer which fielded incomplete girls teams. Other teams earning points at the invite were Tomah (150), Sparta (146), Marathon (107), Wisconsin Rapids (55), Mosinee (50) and Marshfield (36).
The Spencer cross country team also competed at Marshfield on Sept. 7, competing on an individual level at the invite. For the boys, Malachai Anderson took 49th place with a time of 21:41.7. Kaizer Eickleberry ran a 23:18.1 for 61st, Caleb Rucker took 65th with a time of 23:55.2 and Levi Anderson finished 71st with a time of 24:31.7.
For the girls, Emily Wehrman ran a 26:26.2 to take 47th, Theresa Knecht took 55th place with a time of 27:34.5 and Jucal Casalla finished right after her in 56th place with a time of 27:43.6. Ai Takimizawa took 58th by finishing in 28:49.1.
