MEDFORD GIRLS TENNIS

Medford’s number-three doubles team of Myah Smith and Eryka Seidl earned the Raiders’ only win Thursday in a 6-1 loss to defending GNC girls tennis champion Antigo.

Smith and Seidl earned a straight-set win over Antigo’s Hailey Warren and Bailee Vander Sanden, 6-4 , 6-1, to help Medford avoid the shutout on a day the Raiders were a bit short-handed without Brost in the singles lineup.

The number-one and number-two doubles matches were close. Antigo’s Ellie Packard and Faith Bussiere outlasted Kelsey Jascor and Masaeda Krug, 6-4, 6-3 in a good flight-one match, while Claire Musolff and Anna Evans were a little too much for Makayla Motte and Kenya Mann, winning 6-2, 6-3.

Lindsey Wildberg moved up to the one-spot in singles and had a tough matchup with Margo Kelly, the secondteam All-GNC number-two player from a year ago. Kelly won 6-0, 6-1. Red Robin Brechlyn Flannery was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Autumn Higgins at number-two.

Sierra Oelke downed Morgan Huegli 6-1, 6-2 in the flight-three match, while Makayla Roberts was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Medford’s Alyssa Brandner at number- four.

Emmalee Clarkson won a JV singles match for Medford, while Morgan Strebig lost her singles match and Kierstyn Halopka and Chloe Werner lost a doubles match.

Medford fell to 1-3 overall with the loss in Thursday’s GNC opener. A home meet with Lakeland Tuesday was postponed to Wednesday.

The Raiders visit Rhinelander today, Thursday, and then head to the two-day, eight-team Altoona Invitational for the weekend. Another challenging meet awaits Tuesday when Eau Claire Regis comes to town for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference dual meet. Medford gets back into GNC play Sept. 2 at Newman Catholic.
