Faber finishes prep career as all-star

Faber finishes prep career as all-star Faber finishes prep career as all-star

Now ready to take talents to Knox College

There’s one thing you can say about Abbotsford’s Cade Faber, it’s that he knows how to put on a show.

Faber put the perfect bow on his prep career last month, competing in the Wisconsin Basketbcall Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star game on July 15 in the JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells for the Division 4 Red team.

Faber’s Red team defeated the White team by a final score of 127-117, and the high flying, rim-rattling scoring machine dropped 12 points on his opponents.

Winning was certainly the icing on the cake, with Faber proclaiming the entire week a success.

“Being in the Dells for the All-Star Game was a great experience altogether,” Faber said, describing the week long affair. “The coaches, players and peers made the week fun!”

The line-up also allowed Faber to share the floor with several players that had been rivals of his, including Edgar’s Drew Guden.

“I’ve always wanted to play with guys that I’ve played against, so playing with Guden was an experience I’ll never forget. He was one of the toughest players I’ve played against, so it was awesome that I was able to play with him.”

When asked if he had any difficulty gelling with his new teammates and coaches, Faber said it was never a problem, with everyone having a pretty high basketball IQ.

“For as many practices as we got, we made the most of them, and practiced well as a team.”

Faber, who graduated this year as the all-time leading male scorer in Abbotsford High’s history, says he plans on using the experience he gained at the WBCA all-star game as a launching pad for his next step - the NCAA.

Faber finished his time as a Falcon with 1,167 points, and garnered All-Conference, All-Region and All-State honors in his final year, where he finished second in the state in rebounds (14.5 rpg) and was second in the Marawood - North in scoring (20.7 ppg).

Along the way, Faber entertained numerous offers to play at the next level, including interest from NCAA D-I Central Michigan University.

Ultimately, Faber will play in a familiar place for Abby alums, with the fleetfooted 6’3” guard choosing to take his talents to the NCAA D-III ranks and across the border to Galesburg, Ill., where he will suit up for the Prairie Fire of Knox College.

Fabe relied on his relationship with Garret and Ean Rau, who both played football for Knox College, to inform his decision, and he believes joining the Prairie Fire is best suited for his all-around game and attacking style of play.

“I leave for college on Sept. 9, and I chose Knox College because their offense fits me,” Cade said, breaking down his decision. “And the coaches and staff when I was there really valued me as a player and student.”

Faber becomes the latest in a line of recent Abbotsford High graduates who will be playing in the NCAA. With one legacy already firmly cemented, Cade says he’s looking forward to college, but is proud of what he achieved at Abbotsford, and proud to represent the Falcons at the WBCA all-star game.

“It feels good to represent Abbotsford in the all-star game because there hasn’t been an [Abbotsford High] all-star in so long. It feels great to represent the place where I started.”
