Greenwood-Loyal moves on to D3 regional title game
The Greenwood-Loyal softball team pushed a single run across the plate in the top of the seventh inning and then hung on in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 win over Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Monday that advances it to Wednesday’s WIAA Division 3 regional championship game. Greenwood-Loyal led the regional semifinal game 3-0 after it scored twice in the top of the fifth inning, but GET clawed back to tie the score at 3-3 after six innings. Greenwood-Loyal starting pitcher Katlyn Lindner and her defense were able to get the final three outs after the offense got a run in its last at-bat.
Lindner pitched seven strong innings, allowing just six hits and no walks while striking out three batters. Only one of the runs was earned as the G-L defense committed five errors.
The Greenwood-Loyal offense managed eight hits. Lindner had two hits and drove in two runs from the lead-off spot, and Zaida Brock contributed a double. Others with singles for G-L were Aspen Hagen, Mckenna Schley, Anna Lindner, Emma Schlough and Mesa Rasmussen.
Greenwood-Loyal is the fifth-seed in its 10-team regional, while GET was seeded fourth. The win earns Greenwood- Loyal a shot at Prescott, the top seeded team. That game will be played on June 16 at 5 p.m. in Prescott.
The winner of the game advances to the Division 3 sectional semi-final to play the winner of the Neillsville (#3) and Arcadia (#7) contest. The site of the sectional semifinal has yet to be determined. The sectional championship game will be played at 4 p.m. on June 23 in Arcadia.
