The Medford Raiders got winning efforts in distance races and sprint relays from the girls and boys teams during Thursday’s rescheduled Dale Peterson Invitational in Antigo.

The girls finished third out of six teams, while the boys tied for fourth as the Raiders continued to tinker with lineups prior to the Great Northern Conference Championships, which were held Tuesday in Medford (see page 1).

The girls totaled 112 points to outscore Antigo (106), Tomahawk (70) and Newman Catholic (47). Mosinee won it with 180 points, beating Shawano by 37.

Senior Alicia Kawa put in some heavy duty work, winning the 3,200-meter run in 12:18.84 and taking second in the 1,600-meter run in 5:39.28. In the 3,200, she had an 11.41-second margin over Shawano freshman Lilian Guenther. Raider junior Jennifer Kahn was fourth in 13:20.8. In the 1,600, Kawa was 8.11 seconds behind Mosinee’s Olivia Donohue and 9.14 seconds ahead of third-place runner Grace Chelberg of Shawano.

Kawa, Alexis Fleegel, Kahn and Meredith Richter were second of four teams in the 3,200-meter relay at 10:37.31. Shawano’s impressive distance crew won in 10:23.76. Medford was well ahead of Tomahawk (11:17.75) and Antigo (12:46.56).

Fleegel took second in the 800-meter run at 2:36.51, 6.87 seconds behind Shawano’s Grace Beyer. Ella Daniels was eighth for Medford at 2:57.18.

Medford won both sprint relays. Marissa Fronk, Sophie Brost, Karli Higgins and Bryn Fronk ran away with the 800-meter race in 1:51.55, 3.98 seconds ahead of Antigo and 6.47 seconds ahead of Tomahawk. Marissa Fronk, Brost, Jaylin Machon and Bryn Fronk took the 400-meter race in 53.01 seconds to beat Mosinee by 1.18 seconds. Tomahawk was third in 55.6 seconds.

In the sprints, Richter got second in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.59, a seasonbest time for the freshman. She was 1.76 seconds behind Mosinee’s Kate Fitzgerald. Alyssa Brandner added sixth-place points at 1:07.49. Marissa Fronk took third in the 200-meter dash, coming in at 27.57 seconds, while Brost was fifth in 28.91 seconds. Fitzgerald won in 26.22 seconds, while Antigo freshman MacKenzie Wissbroecker clipped Fronk by 0.07 seconds for second place. Lindsey Klapatauskas was seventh for Medford in the 100-meter dash in 14.21 seconds, just off her season best.

Machon lowered her time in the 100-meter low hurdles to 18.7 seconds, good for fifth place. Brenley Beran (20.77) and Brooke Rudolph (20.78) were eighth and ninth. Rudolph also placed fifth in the 300-meter low hurdles at 56.25 seconds.

Higgins was one of Medford’s highest finisher in the field events, taking fourth in the long jump at 14 feet, 5.5 inches. Rudolph was sixth at 13-5.5. Machon cleared 7-6 in the pole vault to take fourth out of 11 competitors. Daniels cleared 7 feet and placed seventh.

Brost was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 27-7.75, while Klapatauskas was eighth at 27-4. Klapatauskas added a personal- best throw of 26-11 in the shot put, good for eighth place. Lacey Brandner was 17th with a personal-best throw of 19-1.75.

Three wins for boys

For the boys, Joe Sullivan took on a heavy load and did well with it, winning the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. The junior standout took the 1,600-meter race in a personal-best 4:33.5 that beat Tomahawk’s Drew Bolder by 5.66 seconds. Sophomore Vincent Seidel was seventh with his personal-best time of 5:14.08. Later on, Sullivan smashed another personal record with his winning time of 10:01.12 in the 3,200. Ethan Onesti of Shawano was 56.72 seconds behind.

Cole Dassow, Tyler Kapitz, Carson Church and Colton Surek teamed up to win the 800-meter relay in 1:39.1. They had a 2.05-second margin over Antigo. Tomahawk (1:46.3) was a distant third.

Kapitz nearly won the 100-meter dash with his personal-best time of 11.99 seconds. Only Elliott Lowney of Shawano (11.56) was faster. Dassow tied Gage Timm of Shawano for fourth at 12.35 seconds. Dassow added fifth-place points in the 200-meter dash at 25.78 seconds. Sophomore Josh Clark chipped in by taking fourth in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.59, a slight improvement over the Medford Invite two days earlier. Senior Jack Tlusty got the sixth-place points in his first 800-meter run with his time of 2:22.4.

Seidel, Tlusty, Owen Wipf and Clark placed fourth in the 3,200-meter relay at 9:41.24, easily beating Antigo (10:15.13). Tomahawk won in 9:13.91. Cory Lindahl (21.19) and Lucas Borman (25.1) added fifth- and sixth-place points for the Raiders in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Ty Baker led Medford in the field with third-place finishes in the horizontal jumps. He went 39-4.5 in the triple jump to finish behind Timm (40-9) and Newman’s Thomas Bates (40-6.75). Seidel went 31-6 to take 10th. Baker went 18-1 in the long jump, which again put him behind Timm (18-11.5) and Bates (18-8). Kapitz was seventh for the Raiders at 15-10.5.

Logan Kawa tied his personal-best height of 9 feet and placed fifth in the pole vault. Jude Stark tied for 11th at 7 feet.

Shawano dominated, scoring 196.5 points. Antigo had 106.5 points, followed by Newman Catholic (104), Medford and Tomahawk (86.5) and Mosinee (75).
