Six-game surge has Thorp-Gilman among the four conference leaders

THORP-GILMAN BASEBALL

The Thorp-Gilman baseball team extended its winning streak to six Tuesday with a 10-0 win at Stanley-Boyd and suddenly finds itself in the midst of a crowded race for the Western Cloverbelt Conference championship halfway through the league season.

Last-place Cadott’s stunning 10-5 win over league-leading Eau Claire Regis Tuesday leaves the conference’s top four teams –– including Thorp-Gilman –– with 5-2 league records at the season’s midpoint. With wins Tuesday, Altoona and Fall Creek also sit at 5-2.

Brayden Boie allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked only three in six solid innings in Tuesday’s win. Another Gilman representative, Grady Kroeplin, had a big moment, belting a two-run homer. He finished with three runs batted in. Thorp-Gilman had eight hits and took advantage of two Oriole errors and five walks. The team scored three runs in the second inning, two in the third and fourth frames, one in the fifth and sealed it with two in the seventh.

Gavin Boie and Logan Kroeplin had two hits apiece. Boie scored three times and hit a double. Jack Syryczuk was one for two, drew two walks and drove in a pair.

Stanley-Boyd starter Brett Kroeplin was rocked for four hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings. Tyler Reynolds allowed four more hits and three earned runs in his 4.2 innings. Five Orioles had a hit apiece.

Thorp-Gilman will play Cadott in Gilman today, Thursday, before traveling to Altoona for a big rematch with the Railroaders on Friday. Altoona won the first matchup 8-2 back on May 4. Regis and Osseo- Fairchild visit Thorp on Tuesday and on May 27. Regis was the last team to beat Thorp-Gilman. That was an 11-1 game on May 6. The team’s winning streak started the next day with a 14-1 win at Osseo.

T-G 3, Fall Creek 1

Brayden Boie knocked in all three runs and Aiden Rosemeyer allowed just three hits in six innings Friday as Thorp-Gilman earned a big 3-1 win over Fall Creek, one of the predicted pre-season favorites in the Western Cloverbelt.

Boie blasted his first high-school home run, a two-run shot off Fall Creek pitcher Lucas Costley, in the bottom of the first inning, which wound up being all the offense Rosemeyer and reliever Gavin Boie needed. Brayden Boie, however, did add an RBI single in the third to make it a 3-0 game before Fall Creek’s Logan Gilles singled in Luke Olson in the fourth.

Brayden Boie went two for three, while Rosemeyer was three for three and scored one of the runs. Kade Kroeplin had Thorp-Gilman’s other hit against Costley, who pitched all six innings for the visiting Crickets. He struck out five and walked one.

Rosemeyer struck out six, walked three and allowed just three hits in his six innings. Gavin Boie struck out the side in the seventh on just 11 pitches.

T-G 9, McDonell 5

Brayden Boie battled into the fifth inning to pick up the pitching win and he was supported by a seven-run first inning as Thorp-Gilman earned a third straight win, 9-5 over McDonell Central in Thorp.

The seven-run rally in the bottom of the first countered a two-run start for the Macks, who did eventually pull within 7-5 before Thorp-Gilman got two big insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Thorp-Gilman outhit the Macks 12-8 and took advantage of five McDonell errors.

Boie threw 4.1 innings before his pitch count hit 100. He struck out six but had to work around four walks and six hits. He allowed three earned runs. Ashton Kroeplin got four outs, allowing two unearned runs and two hits while fanning one. Rosemeyer closed things out, striking out three of the five batters he faced. He walked one.

Five batters had multi-hit games, led by Syryczuk, who went three for three out of the eight spot in the batting order with a triple and a run scored. Kade Kroeplin also tripled and was two for four.

Charlie Hauser, Rosemeyer, and Gavin Boie all went two for three. Boie and Rosemeyer drove in two runs apiece.

Tanner Opsal was four for four and had half of McDonell’s hits. He also took the loss, pitching all six innings. He struck out five and walked two. Four of Thorp-Gilman’s runs were earned.
