THORP-GILMAN BASEBALL

After being held to three runs or less in three of its first four outings, the Thorp-Gilman baseball team broke out in a big way in its last two games.

The second of those came Tuesday in a 16-5 rout of host Cadott in Western Cloverbelt Conference play. The Cardinals scored seven runs in the first two innings and seven more in the fourth and fifth frames to build a 14-2 lead. The Hornets scored three in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game another inning, but Thorp-Gilman closed it out by scoring two more runs in the sixth.

The Cardinals had just seven hits, but they took advantage of their opportunities. Cadott helped them with two errors and by issuing nine walks.

Gilman senior Brayden Boie was one of those hitters that came through when needed, going two for four with a triple and five runs batted in. Aiden Rosemeyer tripled and went two for three with three RBIs. Ashton Kroeplin was two for three and drove in three.

Gilman senior Kade Kroeplin was hitless in two official at-bats, but he drew two walks and scored four runs.

After a couple of tough-luck outings, Gavin Boie got his first win on the mound. In 3.1 innings, he worked around four walks, allowing just two hits and two earned runs. He struck out two. Rosemeyer got the last two outs in the fourth, but he was hit with three earned runs in the fifth. He allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one. Charlie Hauser pitched a scoreless sixth, striking out one and walking one.

Gavin Tegels went three for three for the Hornets (0-4, 1-5) and drove in three runs. Dylan Davis was the losing pitcher. He covered the first four innings, allowing 11 runs, five of which were earned, five hits and five walks. He did strike out seven batters.

Thorp-Gilman, now 2-2 in the Western Cloverbelt and 3-3 overall, is back at home in Thorp today, Thursday, hosting a McDonell Central team that is coming off a 7-5 upset win over Altoona Tuesday. Conference co-leader Fall Creek is in Thorp Friday for a 5 p.m. first pitch.

Next week starts with a non-conference road trip to Rib Lake on Monday. The Cardinals go to Stanley-Boyd Tuesday, host Cadott in Gilman on May 20 and go to Altoona on May 21.

T-G 14, Osseo-Fairchild 1

Rosemeyer struck out six and scattered five hits, while the offense banged out 12 hits and built an 8-1 lead over the first two innings in a 14-1, five-inning win at Osseo-Fairchild Friday.

The Cardinals scored four times in each of the first two innings, made it 10-1 in the third, added one run in the fourth and sealed it with a three-run fifth in their first conference win.

Kade Kroeplin, hitting out of the leadoff spot, sparked the offense by going three for four with a triple and scoring four runs. Rosemeyer went two for three with two doubles and a pair of runs scored. Brayden Boie drove in three runs despite not getting a hit. Ayden Webster was two for four and drove in two.

Garrett Koxlien had two hits and drove in the Thunder’s only run. Starting pitcher Brody Seefeldt took a beating, allowing seven runs, seven hits and a walk while getting just four outs.

Regis 11, Thorp-Gilman 1

After Eau Claire Regis scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning Thursday, Ashton Kroeplin drove in Brayden Boie to make it a 3-1 game in the second. But that was as close as Thorp-Gilman would get in an 11-1, five-inning loss.

The Ramblers banged out 14 hits and scored twice in the third, four times in the fourth and twice more in the fifth to end things early.

Kroeplin’s hit was the only one Thorp-Gilman got off Regis sophomore Zander Rockow, who struck out 14 and walked two and hit a batter. Brayden Boie had a tough outing against the stacked Regis lineup, allowing 13 hits and nine earned runs while striking out three and walking two. He hit four Ramblers. Hauser faced the last two hitters and allowed a hit and a walk.

Rockow also went three for four at the plate. Ben Boda was two for three with two RBIs and two runs scored. Designated hitter Cole Selvig also drove in three runs for Regis.
