Marathon’s baseball team finds itself in a three-game losing skid after getting swept by Edgar last week and then losing, 3-2, at Abbotsford on Friday. Red Raiders senior Mike Hahn, however, believes the team can get out of its recent slump.

“Tonight (Friday) was the same thing as against Edgar,” Hahn said after the loss to Abbotsford. “We got to hit the ball better and put more pressure on teams. I think we only had something like four hits tonight, and that’s not going to cut it. We got to get a lot better than that. We got some young guys who are talented and older guys who can hit the ball well. It’s just a little bit of a slump, but we’ll be alright.”

Marathon lost, 6-4, in eight innings against Edgar on May 4. Junior Jaden Koeller was charged with the pitching defeat and Brock Warren batted three for four against the Wildcats. Marathon then lost, 9-0, to Edgar on Thursday as Kyle Hollenbeck took the pitching defeat. Brock Warren hit a perfect two for two at the plate. Grant Warren suffered the 3-2 pitching loss at Abbotsford on Friday. Hahn batted two for three against the Falcons.

Hahn expects his team to bounce back and begin winning games again.

“Coach (Steve Warren) has taught us well, and he’s taught us to play smarter and not harder,” Hahn said. “That’s going to pay off toward the end of the season. We got a lot of young kids who are smart, and playing smart is going to pay off. We’re hoping to be playing our best baseball at the end of the season.”

Raiders softball wins

Marathon’s softball team rebounded for a 9-6 win at Edgar on Thursday, after the Red Raiders’ 4-2 home loss to the Wildcats on May 4. Andrea Seymour was the winning pitcher for Marathon and Makayla Wirkus was the losing pitcher for Edgar.

Seymour batted four for four at the plate and centerfielder Jada Prihoda doubled and homered against the Wildcats. Allison Wokatsch hit a triple in the victory. Wirkus scored three runs for Edgar.
