Greenwood/Loyal softball team knocks off Neillsville
The Greenwood-Loyal softball team scored three sixth-inning runs to break a 4-4 tie and went on to beat Neillsville 7-4 in a key early season Eastern Cloverbelt Conference game on April 7.
In a game played at Loyal, starting pitchers Katlyn Lindner and Delaney Rochester had matched each other through five innings before Greenwood/ Loyal broke out the bats in the bottom of the sixth. The three runs were more than enough for Lindner as she shut the Warriors down in the last frame for the win.
Lindner allowed nine hits and two walks, while striking out four. Only four of Neillsville’s runs were earned. Lindner was very accurate from the pitching rubber as she fired 55 strikes on her 70 pitches.
Delaney gave up 10 hits and four walks and struck out two.
Lindner, Zaida Brock and Anna Lindner each had two hits for Greenwood/ Loyal. Brock, Mesa Rasmussen and Gracie North each had a double, and the Lindner sisters drove in two runs apiece.
Greenwood/Loyal also picked up a 10- 1 ECC win at home against Spencer on May 4. Greenwood/Loyal scored at least once in six of its seven at-bats, while the Rockets managed only a single run in the seventh.
Lindner went the distance, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out six. Fifty-eight of her 79 pitches went for strikes.
Madison Knecht threw for Spencer and allowed the 10 runs (four earned) on 10 hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts.
