Reminder: Taylor County CDAC meets May 5 to set final recommendations

Don’t miss your county’s last conversation about the 2021 deer season before your local deer advisory council makes its final recommendations to the DNR.

During the week of May 3-7, each County Deer Advisory Council (CDAC) will meet one more time to go over recommendations on antlerless harvest goals, holiday hunts in farmland zones, public/private land quotas and extended archery seasons.

Taylor County’s CDAC will meet via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5. The number for the phone-in option to listen in on the meeting is 312-626-6799 with a code of 851-5235-3520. The direct link to the videoconference can be accessed by visiting https://dnr.wisconsin. gov/topic/Hunt/cdac, scrolling to the May 3-7 final objective setting heading and clicking on the link provided there. Choose Taylor County from the drop-down menu.

The council will review its preliminary recommendations from March 23, which call for a total antlerless harvest quota in the county of 3,100 deer during the 2021 season. Of that total, 2,800 are targeted for private land and 300 is the goal for public land. The CDAC is proposing 10,000 private-land harvest tags and 1,200 public-land tags for purchase. Results from the April 12-25 public input period also will be reviewed.

Each county in Wisconsin has a County Deer Advisory Council to provide input and recommendations to the depart- ment on deer management within their county.

Councils work with local DNR staff to schedule meetings, provide community outreach and an opportunity for public input, review population data and deer impacts on forests and agriculture, develop recommendations on county population objectives and create annual antlerless harvest quotas.

Members review county-level population data and deer impacts on forests and agriculture, develop three-year recommendations on county population objectives and create annual antlerless harvest goals.

The CDAC recommendations and DNR recommendations will be presented to the Natural Resources Board for approval in June.
