Men’s Masters set for Monday at The Sports Page

The 2021 Masters Bowling Tournament is set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 3 at The Sports Page Bowl and Grill. Medford’s best bowlers will compete to see who will get his name on the coveted Blue Jacket and be crowned Bowler of the Year.

In the tradition of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, Sports Page owner Mike Platt has put together the following odds for the tournament for your amusement.

1-1, Casey Nernberger: Having his best year bowling and averaging a house-record 240 per game

2-1, Trent Ballerstein: With a recent 835 series, Trent is coming in hot and hungry. It’s hard to tell if he is a better bowler than golfer. I say bowler.

3-1, Rocky Mantik: With 35 and counting 300 games to his credit, don’t count out the king.

4-1, Dave Kallenbach: Having a great season and especially hot since Jan. 1. Smooth, consistent, a pro’s pro.

4-1 Chad Marchand: From Mid Country Homes, Marchand has been lighting it up all season. The best bowler without a 300 game in Medford history.

4-1, Clint Carbaugh: Runner-up in many tournaments. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Can he catch the bouquet this year?

6-1, Curt Haenel: Last year’s defending champion of the Blue Jacket.

6-1, Dustin Mabie: Never count out the 2018 champion, who just happens to run the pro shop and put out the lane pattern.

8-1, Todd Heier: At 6-5, Todd can almost reach the pins when he delivers the ball and has had many 700s this year.

8-1, Lane Ruch: Won an earlier version of this tournament when he was 18 years old and has 300 games and 800 series to his credit.

8-1, Tommy Olson: Talking Tommy knows the game and can give a play-by-play of every shot. He throws hard with plenty of turn.

8-1, Josh Dassow: The gentle giant could quietly win the whole thing.

10-1, Speedy Hartwig: Familiar to high pressure bowling as a member of the famed JR Construction bowling team.

10-1, Justin Smith: Cider, The Comeback Kid, bowls in all the regional events. His experience could pay off.

10-1, Steve Wibben: If there’s cash to be won, Wib will be there.

10-1, Derrick Romig: From the Gilman area, he will contend if the

10 pin or washouts don’t stop him.

10-1, Mike Platt: With loads of experience, can he turn it on for the tournament?

12-1, Shawn Trimner: The flame-throwing lefty with many 300 games could surprise.

12-1, Tyler Messman: Manager of the Sports Page and the best athlete in bowling.

14-1, Kole Hartwig: Being Casey Nernberger’s brother-in-law comes in handy.

15-1, Joe Hartwig: Joe will compete and has numerous beer drinking trophies from his softball days that may intimidate.

15-1, Adam Haenel: Looking to add another Haenel name to the Blue Jacket.

999-1, Vishal Bhatoya: The Sports Page’s head bartender and collarbone- breaking cricket pitcher from India will entertain and could throw some big games and give everyone the dilly dilly and put them in the pit of misery.
