Getting back on track after the holiday break, the Lake Holcombe girls basketball squad split games between an away match and home in conference action.

Jan. 5 vs. Winter conference (L 50-46)

To kick off the new year, the Chieftains traveled to Winter Jan. 5, in an East Lakeland Conference clash.

The score remained close throughout the game, with the Chieftains only behind the home team by four points going into halftime. The second half was a repeat of the first, but with the slight advantage on the scoreboard, Winter claimed the victory, 50-46.

“We will continue to condition and enhance our skills for when we meet them again,” said coach Jennifer Lechleitner.

The Chieftains were led by junior Brooke Lechleitner, with 21 points and senior Allison Golat-Hattamer, who finished with 12 points. Sophomore Karly Kirkman ended the night by scoring 8 points.

Adding 4 points, was sophomore Justine Kane, while junior Carly Vavra chipped in with 1 point.

Jan. 8 vs. Bruce conference (W 59-48)

A few days later, Lake Holcombe was back in action, this time, hosting Bruce.

It was a close game in the first half, with the Chieftains leading at the break by six points. The contest continued to be close in the second half, but Lake Holcombe stayed the course and came away with a 59-48 victory.

“Nothing is better than a team that plays to- gether and wants to see all players succeed,” said J. Lechleitner.

Hattamer led on the scoreboard, with 17 points, three of those from beyond the arc, followed by B. Lechleitner, who notched 15 points.

Kirkman finished with 14 points and two, three-pointers, while freshman Emma Lechleitner added 7 points, three of those from long range. Freshman Ella Hartzell got on the board with 4 points and Kane rounded things out with 2 points.

The Chieftains now sit at 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
