Cadott drops games to Ramblers and Macs

Cadott saw the girls basketball program open with two away games in the West Cloverbelt Conference, to begin a new year.

Jan. 5 vs. Regis conference (L 69-47)

In a tough game against the always exciting Regis, Cadott kept the score close throughout the first half, only down by six come halftime.

“They pulled away near the end,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

The Hornets couldn’t muster their offense and Regis increased their scoring to edge Cadott, for a 69-47 victory.

“We didn’t get to the free-throw line as much as I thought we should have and then we put them on the line too much,” said Hazuga.

Sophomore Elly Eiler hit the only three-pointers (two) of the night for Cadott, ending with 14 points, followed closely by senior Jada Kowalczyk. Seniors Meadow Barone and Mac Prokupek each had 5 points, as did sophomore Lauryn Goettl.

Sophomore Laken Ryan finished the night with 3 points and senior Hailey Wellner had 2.

“Our effort was good,” said Hazuga. “They are a good team, we should be able to learn a few things from this one.”

Jan. 8 vs. McDonell conference (L 48-28)

The Hornets were on the road again a few days later, taking on McDonell, with a good start in the first half and an early lead.

“The girls played very well executing on both ends,” said Hazuga.

By halftime, Cadott was only down two points, but the Macs kicked in their offense and outscored the Hornets, 30-12. Time ran out and the game went the way of McDonell, 48-28.

“We didn’t have one of our better offensive games,” said Hazuga. “Pace of the game was in our favor, we just didn’t score the points.”

Kowalczyk and Ryan ended with 8 points, while Wellner came away with 7. Prokupek added 3 and senior Autumn Yeager chipped in with 2.

Cadott’s record stands at 5-4 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
