Moore, Granberg win races at Stratford Quad
HAWKS CROSS COUNTRY
Serena Moore and Adam Granberg won the varsity races and led the Prentice- Rib Lake Hawks to third-place team finishes at the Stratford Marawood cross country quad held Sept. 15.
Run on what is typically one of the fastest courses the Hawks compete on each season, the team set several seasonbest times while running with the host Tigers, Edgar and Phillips.
The girls edged their rival Phillips 73-75 to earn third place. Stratford had a 34-50 edge over Edgar to win the meet.
Moore earned her third straight win at this meet and did it fairly easily with a time of 20:25. She was 31 seconds ahead of runner-up Morgan Schnelle of Edgar. Third-place finisher Allie Adomaitis of Phillips was 52 seconds behind in 21:17. It was Moore’s fastest time of the young season by 14 seconds.
Leah Thums cracked the top 10 in a field of 40 finishers. She was ninth in 24:02. Kylee Goodrich got closer to getting under the 25-minute barrier as she was 17th in 25:07. Lydia Holm was 22nd in a season-best 26:49.
Two additions to the roster were Prentice-Rib Lake’s fifth and sixth scorers. Jeann Johnson came in 30th at 29:30 and Ryean Gorski was 34th at 31:48. Nadia Czahor was 38th in 35:14 and Leslie Vance completed her first race of the fall, taking 40th in 41:50.
Granberg secured his first-ever varsity win with a time of 18:49.78 that put him 21.26 seconds ahead of runner-up Tyler Holcomb of Stratford. The Phillips Loggers had the next six finishers to dominate the team standings. Connor Gabay led that group with his third-place time of 19:30.54.
The Hawks got an 11th-place finish from Will Hartke in a season-best 20:04.91 and a 15th-place finish from Alex Schantner in a season-best 20:34.44. Ben Peterson was 18th out of 28 finishers in a season-best 21:04.9, while Reese Isaacson was next in a season-best 21:05.7. Aiden Hartke was 25th in 24:47.1.
Phillips finished with 25 points, followed by Stratford (48), the Hawks (59) and Edgar (incomplete).
Prentice-Rib Lake easily won the boys middle school meet with 25 points, beating Stratford (51) and Edgar (52). Jack Regier won the race, while Kaleb Scott was fourth, Matthew Schmidt was fifth, Josh Hartke was sixth and Hagen Isaacson was eighth.
Kylie Orysen was third for the Hawks in the middle school girls race. Maddy Freeman was 14th and Kate Schmidt was 15th.
The Hawks are at Marathon’s Marawood Quad today, Thursday, at 4:30 p.m. Athens and Phillips will be there too. The Hawks have added a dual meet at Chequamegon, set for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. They’ll be at the Athens Marawood Quad on Oct. 1 with Stratford and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
