spite four errors, the Moondogs did not allow an unearned run. They outhit the Chaps 5-4.

Marshfield’s Nathan Krommenakker got the win in 1.1 innings, relieving starter Donovan Brandl. Left-handed closer Ethan Peters made quick work of the Moondogs in the ninth to pick up the save.

Trenton Woebbeking got through a shaky first inning to shut down the Chaps before tiring in the sixth. He wound up allowing three hits –– all in the sixth –– three earned runs, two walks and hit a batter. He struck out six. Caleb Guden pitched the final 2.1 innings for Medford, striking out four while allowing a run, a hit and three walks.

Marshfield got the game’s first run without a hit in the bottom of the first inning. Woebbeking hit leadoff batter Nate McDonald, who went to second on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out by Caleb Krommenakker. After Brandl walked, McDonald scored on a wild pitch.

Woebbeking led off the fourth with a single and Logan Kroeplin led off the sixth with a hit, but both were thrown out trying to steal second by Marshfield catcher Shawn O’Connell.

The Chaparrals extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Brandl hit a oneout single, but he was wiped out at second on Victor Gonzalez’s fielder’s choice. Gonzalez scored on a double to the gap in right-center by Luke Wirtz. Wirtz then scored on Jason Kurth’s single up the middle. Guden relieved Woebbeking at that point and prevented further damage by striking out Nick Anderson.

Medford responded with its lone rally of the night in the top of the seventh.

Woebbeking reached on a leadoff infi eld single. Kole Karaba and Brayden Boie followed with walks to load the bases with no outs. Woebbeking scored, while Karaba and Boie moved up a base on Brandl’s wild pitch. After two strikeouts, Guden came through with a clutch base hit to left-center, scoring both runners and tying the game.

Brandl, a Wisconsin Rapids grad who now plays at UW-Whitewater, exited the game having allowed three runs and four hits while striking out nine and walking three in 6.2 innings.

Ben Lindgren gave Medford some hope in the eighth with a single and a stolen base, but Nathan Krommenakker struck out three batters in the inning to keep Lindgren at second base.

Gonzalez started Marshfield’s winning rally in the bottom of the eighth with a one-out single. Wirtz and Kurth both walked to load the bases, with Kurtz taking a borderline 3-2 pitch for a ball to draw his walk. Guden caught Anderson looking on the inside corner, but a wild pitch with O’Connell at the plate scored Gonzalez.

Woebbeking was the only player in the game to record multiple hits, going two for four.

Everest, a 12-6 winner in 10 innings Sunday over Pittsville, travels to Medford Saturday night for the Moondogs’ home opener Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Marshfield is at Minocqua Sunday afternoon.
