Revised, tentative plans announced for Medford boys youth summer basketball

The Runnin’ Raiders Summer Skills boys basketball camp, originally planned for June 8-11, is now tentatively set for July 6-9 at Medford Area Middle School.

The camp is open to boys entering grades 1-8 this fall and will be led by head varsity boys basketball coach Ryan Brown and JV coach Bob Komanec. They will be assisted by other high school basketball players.

Players in grades 6-8 will meet daily from 1 to 4 p.m. in the large gym. Grades 1-3 will meet in the small gym from 1 to 2:15 p.m., followed by grades 4-5 from 2:15 to 4 p.m.

The camp focuses on having fun playing basketball, work ethic and character, offensive footwork, proper shooting form, creating space and beating pressure, attacking and finishing at the rim, basic offensive and defensive principles and features some one-on-one, two-ontwo and three-on-three competitions.

Registration can be done at leagues. bluesombrero.com/medfordhoops. The registration fee includes a camp T-shirt.

Youth players in grades 5-8 are welcome to participate in free Drill 4 Skill workouts, which are scheduled for 8 to 9 a.m. at Medford Area Senior High on July 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28. High school workouts follow on those days from 9 to 10 a.m.

Coach Brown’s Attack the Rack camp for grades 6-12 has been canceled for this year. It was supposed to held July 6-7.

Summer dates are, of course, subject to change during this time of uncertainty.
