Deer advisory councils will finalize 2020 numbers next week
Those interested in deer hunting and local deer populations are welcome to listen in on the final spring meeting of the Taylor County Deer Advisory Council, set for Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m.
The council will meet via teleconference to set antlerless harvest quotas and antlerless permit numbers for the 2020 hunt in the county.
To listen in, call 855-947-8255. The meeting’s passcode is 7407-385#.
In April, the council set a total antlerless harvest quota of 2,800 deer for the fall season with 2,500 of those deer planned to come from privately-owned lands and 300 coming from public lands. Based on 2019 success rates, the council has proposed 8,350 antlerless harvest authorizations being made available for private lands and 1,000 being made available on public land.
The public comment period on these figures ended April 29.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will review the county council recommendations following each county’s meetings, which take place May 4-7, and will provide proposals to the Natural Resources Board for approval in June.
