Medford Area Senior High announces winter sports award winners

Coaches of the Medford Raiders’ winter sports teams recently presented awards to players in their respective programs. Awards for boys and girls basketball, curling, gymnastics, boys and girls hockey, boys swimming and wrestling are as follows:

Boys basketball

Head coach Ryan Brown named Onyi Ekwueme and Justin Sullivan the Co-Relentless Players of the Year, John McMurry the winner of the Ultimate Teammate award and Ty Baker the Most Improved Player. Dylan Wickersheim, Cooper Wild and McMurry were winners of Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Team First Awards. Head coach Jessica Faude named Sierra Hanson and Marissa Fronk the Co-Most Valuable Players, Autumn Krause the Most Improved Player and Brynn Rau and Rynn Ruesch the co-winners of the Raider Award. Fronk was named a Channel 7 All-Star. Hanson, Rau and Fronk received Captain pins. Curling

Head coach Stu Amundson named Karina Herrada the Girls Most Valuable Player and Dalton Casar the Boys Most Valuable Player. He named Brett Lundy the Boys Most Improved Player and Lyza Brandner the Girls Most Improved Player. Gymnastics

Head coach Steve Cain named Kate Malchow (bars), Brooklyn Bilz (beam) and Kennedy Bilz (vaults) the Most Improved Gymnasts. Honorable mention for those awards went to Avery Purdy (bars), Makala Ulrich (beam), Abbi Potocnik (vault) and Kiarah Behling, Anna Wanke and Brooke Wegerer (floor). Cain named Malchow the Most Dedicated Gymnast and Megan Wanke was the winner of the Raider Award. Megan Wanke and Lydia Sigmund earned Captain awards. Cain also presented the following: Letters -– Kara Hudak, Megan Wanke, Brooklyn Bilz, Makala Ulrich, Kennedy Bilz, Kate Malchow, Avery Purdy, Anna Wanke.

Head coach Galen Searles named AJ Adleman the Most Valuable Player, Colton Gowey and Carter Pernsteiner the Co-Top Scorers and Logan Searles was the winner of the Academic Achievement Award. Girls hockey

Head coach Jenna Wieting named Emily Schafer the Most Valuable Player, Kyla Kennedy the Most Improved Player and Eryka Seidl the winner of the Raider Character Award. Alex Nicks received the Hobey Baker Character Award. Schaefer was recognized for her school records of 62 goals and 19 assists during the season and 113 goals and 39 assists in her career. Wieting also presented the following: Letters –– Kiersten Crass, Alex Nicks, Emily Schafer, Kristen Brandner, Karli Higgins, Kyla Kennedy, Alyssa Brandner, Saige Duesing, Delaney Hraby, Kylee Koontz, Skylier Krueger, Eryka Seidl.

Boys swimming

Head coach Shari Bergman named Isaac Dittrich and Ethan Kraemer the Co-Most Valuable Swimmers and Nathan Sislo the Most Improved Swimmer. Head coach Brandon Marcis named Jake Rau the Most Valuable Wrestler and Clay Bowe the Most Improved Wrestler.
