Ten children attended the Story Hour held in the library under the direction of Miss Jane Becher. She read two books and then the children saw a film strip before selecting books to take home and read.
FHA News
Stratford’s Senior Citizens are invited to accompany the Future Homemakers of America when they go caroling. They will visit St. Joseph’s hospital, the convalescent center and Norwood hospital. This is part of the FHA’s project concerning the elderly.

Going to the voters
The Stratford School District plans to ask the voters to approve an April referendum granting the district a tax levy increase of $150,000 for each of five years. The voters gave the district the right to tax an extra $90,000 each year back in 1996. That referendum will expire soon.
HCE ends year with Christmas party
The Stratford HCE club held a combined meeting and Christmas party in the Community Hall. Hostesses were the officers, Marie Mullins, Jean Weichel, Lillian Heinze and Elaine Becher.

Students Prepare Breakfast
Mrs. Karlen’s grade three class at the Marathon Elementary school prepared breakfast in the classroom as a culminating activity for a health unit on the basic food groups, proper diet and table etiquette. The students and Mrs. Karlen prepared toast, eggs and cereal and served milk, orange juice and rolls with the breakfast.

Edgar Authority has first official meeting
The Edgar Housing Authority had its first official meeting. The group was officially created by action of the village board. Dave Myszka is chairman, members are Marv Radue, Larry Thompson, Richard Wirkus, Rev. Harvey Jaeger and Ken Strong. Don Johnson represents the village board as a non-voting member.
Architects to meet
Architects will meet with the Athens School Board this week regarding the remodeling of the elementary school.
Lions Project
Edgar Lions are again selling Christmas trees to raise money for their various projects. Trees are being unloaded in the parking lot behind the bank.

Edgar board deadlocks on distance lab
The Edgar Board of Education deadlocked 2-2 on setting up a distance learning lab, but scheduled a special meeting to revisit the issue. The plan is to use $44,000 in capital and maintenance funds to set-up a distance learning lab where high school seniors would be able to take two-way video and audio classes from other high schools, tech schools and universities.
Athens school board toughens hiring policy The Athens Board of Education toughened its hiring rules for non-staff coaches, requiring all new hires to submit to a drug test. Half of the district’s coaches are non-staff members. They number about thirty.
Edgar leaders
Edgar High School seniors Trudy Artus and LeeAnn Haupt have been recognized for their leadership abilities. Haupt has been nominated to compete in the national Principal’s Leadership Award scholarship program. Artus is the 1999 Edgar High School Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Program award recipient.
