Senior Card Group
The Senior Citizens card group met on Dec. 5 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. Two games of Sheepshead were played. Tom Ellenbecker won first place and Rick Schaetzl came in second in the first game. Steve Klockziem won first andAndy Hoef came in second in the second game.
Low score was Norbert Lake. Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
VFW Post 8527
The monthly meeting of Athens VFW Post 8527 was held Dec. 4, and called to order by Commander Marv Reuter.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said by the 16 members in attendance.
Several donations were approved, including $250 to the Athens community dinner to be held at St. Anthony’s dinner hall, $500 to Share Your Holidays (specifically the Salvation Army) and $500 to Athens Circle of Joy.
Duane Passehl was in attendance and has asked to join the VFW post. His request was approved by the membership.
At last month’s dinner at Country Aire, lifetime memberships were awarded to Ken Knab and Mike Pawlowski.
Refreshments and lunch were served following the meeting.
Attendance door prizes were given to Archie Becker, Eugene Denk and Korin Conner Due to the New Year’s Day holiday, the next monthly meeting will be held on Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. at the fire hall back room. New members are always welcome.
Santa in Fenwood
The Fenwood Lions Club will be hosting Santa and Mrs. Claus on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1-3 p.m. at Illusions in Fenwood. Santa will be bringing treats. Children can bring their Christmas lists and have a photo taken with the Clauses.
Bingo at St. Stephen
St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 424 N. Third Ave., Edgar, will host bingo in the church basement on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served. If you need a ride or have questions, call Mark at 715-3485802 or Colleen at 715-571-8277.
Medical supply closet
Edgar Community Church has taken over the medical supply closet started by the American Legion in the 1960s. The closet has a variety of personal home medical equipment available to the public, such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, lockers and toilet risers. The items are currently being kept in a storage unit, but the church plans to build a permanent storage shed. Donations of good-condition items, especially rollator walkers, are accepted.

Needlework Social Hour
Adults are invited to craft and chat at a Needlework Social Hour on Dec. 23 from 4-6 p.m. at the Edgar Branch Library. Whether it’s knitting, crocheting, embroidery or mending, everyone is welcome to bring their projects and chat. The event is free. Call 715352-3155 for more info.
Giving Tree
The Circle of Joy is sponsoring a “Giving Tree” for the Edgar area at Nicolet National Bank. Decorations have been placed on the tree with a child’s age, clothing size and gift suggestions. Gifts should be wrapped and returned to the bank by Monday, Dec. 16.
Family Story Time
Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to visit the Edgar Branch Library on the first and third Tuesdays for Family Story Time. Enjoy learning with all of your children through stories, songs and other literature-based activities in this 30-minute program. The next Family Story Time will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
Deer dumpster
The Central Wisconsin Conservation Club Inc., in conjunction with Marathon County Waste Management, will be sponsoring a dumpster for the disposal of deer carcass waste (rib cages, heads, legs and fat scrap) during the upcoming deer firearms season. The dumpster will be placed in the Edgar Waste Disposal entrance, located off of East Limits Road. There will also be a separate container placed there for unwanted deer hides, which will be donated to the Lions Camp for the Blind. The dumpster will be placed there thru Dec. 16.
This program is being done as a surrounding community service to help to keep our environment cleaner from improperly disposed waste in our rural ditches. People are asked to only use the dumpster for the waste that it is intended for so that this project can continue and grow in the future.

Decorating contest
The Knights of Columbus of Marathon City is sponsoring a Keep Christ in Christmas House Decorating Contest. The winner will receive a $100 gift card, with judging taking place on Friday, Dec. 13. Family Story Time Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to visit the Marathon City Branch Library the first three Thursdays in December for Family Story Time. Library staff will read books, sing songs, and more during 30 to 45 minutes together. Family Story Times will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 12 and 19.

Holiday concerts Sunday
Stratford Middle and High School will hold their holiday concerts this Sunday, Dec. 15. The middle school performance is at 1:30 p.m., followed by the high school performance at 3 p.m.
Magnetic Magic
Children and their families are invited to visit the Stratford Branch Library on Monday, Dec. 16, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for a Play & Learn program all about magnets.
