Athens approves plat for new housing addition
By Casey Krautkramer
The Athens Village Board on Nov. 25 approved the final plat of the 1st Addition to West View Subdivision, paving the way for 14 new lots to be established for future single- family houses.
Village president Randy Decker abstained from the vote because he owns Decker Investments, which is creating the addition onto the subdivision that he built. There will now be 38 property lots combined between the original West View Subdivision and the 1st Addition. Lots in the new addition will range from 14,640 to 23,960 square feet.
West View Subdivision was formed in 2007 and has 24 property lots. There are currently 22 homes in the subdivision, with one lot still available. The other lot was sold to an adjoining property owner a number of years ago and they combined it with their property to build a garage on it.
Decker will pay for installing a road, curb and gutter and utility extensions into the new addition, but the streets and utilities will eventually be turned over to the village to maintain. A new street, Five Kay Circle, will be created in the subdivision addition south off Nathan Street.
Village clerk Lisa Czech said the new street is named Five Kay Circle because Decker’s wife’s middle name is Kay and there are apparently four other relatives in the family who also have Kay as their middle name.
Czech said there is no timeline for construction of the new addition, but she anticipates it will begin sometime in 2025.
COMING SOON - The plat map above shows plans for a new residential addition in Athens that will include 14 lots for single-family homes south of Nathan Street.
