Senior Card Group
The Senior Citizens card group met on Nov. 7 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Two games of Sheepshead were played. Butch Boris won first place and Tom Ellenbecker came in second in the first game. Andy Hoef won first and Wil Strack came in second in the second game.
Low score was Norbert Lake. Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
Mini Makers Stop by the Athens Branch Library anytime during open hours Dec. 2-7 for Mini Makers, an opportunity to explore process art. Process art is child-led and focuses on creation instead of following specific directions. Each branch will have a different project each month so that children and caregivers have an opportunity to unleash their creativity while meeting other community members.

‘Days Gone By’ exhibit
The Athens Area Historical Society will host a collection of items from “Athens Days Gone By” from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. The event will be held in the meeting room of the Athens Fire Hall, and is open to the public free of charge.
Family Story Time
Bring your entire family to Story Time at the Athens Branch Library. Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to join library staff for this 30-minute program. Staff will read books, sing songs, and offer other literature-based activities. Family Story Times will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4 and 11, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

EDGAR
Giving Tree The Circle of Joy is sponsoring a “Giving Tree” for the Edgar area at Nicolet National Bank. Decorations have been placed on the tree with a child’s age, clothing size and gift suggestions. Gifts should be wrapped and returned to the bank by Monday, Dec. 16.
Edgar Lions tree sale The Edgar Lions will hold their annual Christmas tree sale in the village hall parking lot from noon until 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec 7. Trees are available in heights from 6 to 10 feet tall. Wreaths will be available to be picked up on the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 4 or Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Edgar School mini-bus garage across from the elementary school office.
Christmas at Oak Street Edgar will host its annual Christmas at Oak Street Park on Sunday, Dec. 8, featuring a visit from Santa Claus, a parade from Nicolet Bank to the park, and a live Nativity scene with real animals. Treats and hot chocolate will be available, and St. Stephen’s Church will serve chili and cheesy chicken chowder soup from noon to 3 p.m. in the church basement.

Family History Basics
Adults can learn how to trace their family history using Ancestry on Monday, Dec. 2, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Edgar Branch Library. Participants will be guided through some of the basics of genealogical research before covering some of the basics of Ancestry, which patrons can access at any library location. Deer disposal dumpster
The Central Wisconsin Conservation Club Inc., in conjunction with Marathon County Waste Management, will be sponsoring a dumpster for the disposal of deer carcass waste (rib cages, heads, legs and fat scrap) during the upcoming deer firearms season. The dumpster will be placed in the Edgar Waste Disposal entrance, located off of East Limits Road. There will also be a separate container placed there for unwanted deer hides, which will be donated to the Lions Camp for the Blind. The dumpster will be placed there thru Dec. 16.
This program is being done as a surrounding community service to help to keep our environment cleaner from improperly disposed waste in our rural ditches. People are asked to only use the dumpster for the waste that it is intended for so that this project can continue and grow in the future.
Fake snow playtime
Children are invited to visit the Edgar Branch Library on Wednesday, Dec., 4, from 3 to 5 p.m., to have fun playing with snow – indoors. Participants will make fake snow using baking soda and hair conditioner, and library staff will have an assortment of arctic animal toys and molds to use with the snow. Giving Tree
A Circle of Joy Christmas “Giving Tree” will be located at People’s State Bank, Marathon. Ornaments with children’s ages and wish lists have been placed on the tree. All gifts are to be wrapped and returned to the bank tree no later than Friday, Dec. 9.
