Two Local Winners in Doll Contest
A Wausau bank has announced the winners of the 1974 Dolls for Christmas program. Beth Ulrich was first in sports costume and Cathy Albanese first in street clothes. The bank provided dolls for the area seamstresses to dress. After December 7th the dolls will be gift-wrapped and given to needy children in the area.
DAR Good Citizen Award
Miss Evelyn Dooge has been selected by the faculty of Stratford High School to be its representative in the DAR Good Citizen contest for 1974-75. Miss Dooge was elected on the basis of leadership, dependability, service and patriotism to an outstanding degree.
Marathon Cadettes Have Busy Season
The Cadette troop of the Girl Scouts was very fortunate to be sponsored by the Marathon Lions Club this year. Cadette Troop 173 of Marathon had an overnight camp-out in September, a Halloween party in October and this month had a clothing drive for needy families as well as hosting a rollerskating party. Girls in the 7th, 8th and 9th grades from the Marathon area are invited to join. STRATFORD JOURNAL

American Education Week
Sandy Collins and Tyler Johnson were winners in the American Education Week contests sponsored by the Stratford Education Foundation. Collins won the high school contest and Johnson won the grade school contest. The group also donated books to the Stratford Family Resource Center.
Lions announce contest winners
The Stratford Lions held a design and coloring contest for the 1999 Christmas tree sale. Winning the design contest was Mandy Skwierczynski followed by Mari Lang. The coloring contest winners were Brice Weigel, Kyle Moeller, John Knoll, and Heidi Heeg.

Athens Board Topic
TheAthens Village Board heard a proposal from the Athens Fair Association on Monday night. Their intention is to build a 96-104 foot by 50 foot barn to replace the old one on the fair grounds. The village uses the present barn for storage when the fair isn’t using the building. The barn would also have a 10 foot overhang on the west side to provide shelter for small animals at the fair. Construction is supposed to start in the spring.
Edgar Returns Wrestlers
Seven lettermen are returning to this year’s squad at Edgar High School. Returning lettermen are Art Nowak, Jim Liss, Myron Knetter, Chuck Sekorski, Rich Sekorski, Terry Dvorak and Don Ruhoff. The wrestling season started Wednesday.

Athens teenage receives gunshot would
A 15-year-old Athens deer hunter suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder but luckily, suffered no serious injury. Jonathon Haines was struck by a bullet at 1:15 p.m. while walking to a parked car with three hunting companions. The incident occurred just off Lovers Lane, Town of Bern. The stray bullet travelled over a mile before striking Haines. The injured hunter received three stitches.
Volunteers comb woods looking for runaway The Marathon County Sherriff’s Department discovered a 41-year-old handicapped man hiding in the basement of St. John’s Catholic Church, Wuerzburg, after a two day search. Authorities had been alerted by relatives that the man had run away from his Town of Johnson home. A search crew, including 15 local deer hunters and members of theAthens Fire Department combed heavily wooded areas to assist law enforcement.
Tops in the Marawood
Edgar High School athletes Pam Murkowski and Tyler Berg were named Marawood Conference players of the year. Murkowski was named tops in girls cross country and Berg for football.

Students in the Fashion Merchandise class at Stratford High School recently learned about a variety of shoe styles. Modeling some of the shoes are Aubrey Cherney, Katie Leick, Amber Boville and Gwen Lindquist.
