Lions Club to Start United Fund Drive
The Stratford United Fund kicked off its annual campaign to provide financial support for important organizations in the area. Robert L. Hubert has been named as its 1974 chairman. A goal of $1,300 has been set for 1974.
Poppy Days
The annual “Poppy Days” of the Auxiliary of the VFW 6352, will be held on November 8 and 9, the chairman, Mrs. Jerome Drachenberg announced. These days were chosen because they were the closest to the original Armistice Day which falls on November 11.

At Zion Lutheran
Living Water, a group of Christian Artists in Praise and Worship Music from North Dakota and Minnesota will be appearing at Zion Luthern Church, Stratford on Sunday. The group traveled extensively from 1974 to 1982 in the U.S. and Europe and are now doing a reunion tour. MARATHON JOURNAL

Senior Citizens Halloween Party
Marathon senior citizens met for a Halloween party. Twenty-five members answered roll call. Dessert and coffee were served by hostesses Mary T. Hornung and Agatha Hall. Usual business was conducted by President Bernice Krause.
Legion Post Will Honor Armistice Day
The American Legion Post 469 will observe Armistice Day on Monday, November 11, at 10:30 a.m. at a program to be held at the elementary school, with the cadet band participating. Colors will be be presented, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and invocation by Post Chaplain James Oelke. The speaker for the day will be the Rev. Chester Mosarny, Lt. Col. In the air force reserve.

Honors Band
Jeannie Bauman and Kay Totzke, members of the Edgar High School band, will perform with the State Honors Band at the Music Education Convention in Madison. Members of this band are chosen by auditions and includes students from all parts of the state.
Course Graduates
The hunter safety course taught by Jack Schaetzl in Athens recently held their graduation. Graduates include Mark Novitzke, Gerald Zenner, Pam Willemssen, Jeff Balz, Keith Sjostrom, Fritz Balz, Chris Flueckinger, Gary Belanger, Robert Zocker, Russ Huebner, Tim Krueger, Barry Schmitt and Scott Balz.
Athens Play
The three-act comedy, “Coffee House of the Blue Lagoon” will be presented in the Athens High School gymnasium. The AHS Drama Club is under the direction of Mrs. Ann Rehm.

Edgar school will try ala carte lunch
The Edgar Board of Education agreed to serve fast food type items in a second “ala carte” lunch line in an effort to try and put the school’s hot lunch program back in the black. District Administrator Barkley Anderson said that the Edgar Public School hot lunch program runs an annual $15,000 deficit and he is hopeful that with the second line, the hot lunch program can possibly break even.
Tech Center honored
Athens High School Alpha Tech Center instructors, Robert Lange, Donley Niskanen and Pat Kelley accepted the John Cook Memoral Award on behalf of the tech center at the Wausau Grand Theater. The award applauds the tech center’s connection to the Athens community Food Scavenger Hunt
The Edgar FHA has 77 members this year. Next week members of the FHA will participate in a food scavenger hunt. All collections gathered will be given to the Circle of Joy to be distributed to local families in need.
1999 – Pippin
Pictured are cast members and technical support helpers involved in this year’s Athens High School Choral Department musical, Pippin. Sixty-five Athens students are involved in the musical. Performances will be November 12 – 14.

1999 – WIAA football playoff action
Edgar Wildcat Greg Streit leaps to try to block a punt from Stratford’s Paul Bangart at last Saturday’s Level 3 Division 5 football playoff at Stratford. The Cats defeated the Tigers 26-6 in the game. Edgar moves on to play Pecatonica- Argyle at Portage.
