Eleven Stratford High School girls will be participating in the “Make It With Wool” contest at Tomah. They are Janet Hein, Geri Steines, Mary Stueber, Kathy Lassila,, Mary Zoellner, Brenda Lau, Sharon Joswiak, Sandy Hubert, Cheryl Ulrich and Dixie Weber. Mrs. Wisnewski will accompany the group.

Double Miracle
Sisters Joyce LeVoy of Stratford and Elaine Mueller of Edgar received kidney transplants within weeks of each other earlier this year. A chuck wagon supper benefit will be held at St. John ELCA to assist the sisters in paying for anti-rejection and anti-infection drugs that are critical following transplants.
Grease is the word
The Stratford High School’s vocal music department has been rehearsing for their production of Grease. Amanda Brusky plays Sandy and Ryan Wenzel is Danny. Lia Klumpyan is the director. MARATHON JOURNAL

Parent-Teachers Meeting
Dr. Russell Retterer of the Marathon County Exceptional Education Program will speak to the Parent-Teacher organization of the Marathon Elementary School in November. Dr. Retterer’s presentation is entitled “Help, These Kids Are Driving Me Crazy” which is about child development and the needs of both child and parent as the child grows up.
Radio operators will patrol on Halloween
This year several people in Stratford with Citizen Band Radios have volunteered their time to assist the youngsters that will be out trick or treating and to be on the lookout for any trouble that may arise.

Liss goes to state
Jim Liss of the Edgar Wildcats cross country team will represent his school in the state meet to be held at Dretzka Park in Milwaukee. Liss finished fourth in the Class C (small school) race in the sectional meet at Wausau’s American Legion Golf Course to earn the berth in sate competition.
Heindl leads MHS to victory
Larry Heindl became the first player in the history of Marathon High School to rush for more than 1,000 yards. Heindl has a total of 1,045 yards and also is the conference scoring champ with 93 points. The Raiders finished with a 8-1 record and a second place finish in the title race behind Auburndale.
Athens Play
The three-act comedy, “Coffee House of the Blue Lagoon” will be presented in the Athens High School gymnasium. The AHS Drama Club is under the direction of Mrs. Ann Rehm.

Athens referendum is defeated
Athens School District voters on Tuesday, for a second time, turned down a plan to build an elementary school wing onto Athens High School but only by a four percent margin. Athens referendum organizers had hoped to sell Athens Elementary School for use as an assisted living center for seniors but with a referendum defeat, it will continue to be used as a school.
A semester in Poland
Kelly Soczka, Edgar, was among 24 UWRiver Falls students who participated recently in the college’s Semester Abroad Program. Soczka, a History major, traveled to Poland to study the place of Roman Catholicism in Polish society. She is the daughter of Steve and Janice Soczka.
Marathon variety show
Members of the Marathon High School choral department will be putting on this year’s variety show. The show titled “The Clairol Brunette Show,” will include a potpourri of singing and skits
1999 – Senior citizen dinner
Members of the Edgar Lions Club prepare to serve a gymful of Edgar senior citizens. The dinner is organized by long-time senior advocate Larry Thompson. The Edgar Boy Scouts also volunteered to help serve the elderly. THE RECORD-REVIEW ARCHIVES
1999 – New owners
Dennis and Jean Weisenberger, Marathon, are the new owners of the Village Inn supper club on Marathon’s Main Street. The couple said that the restaurant will operate as in the past with traditional Wisconsin Friday night fish fries and Thursday night tenderloin beef tip specials. The couple also operate the Marathon Arcade and DJ’s Storage in Marathon.
