50th Anniversary of Rozellville Hall

In the Tiger’s second dual cross country meet of the year, Stratford defeated Rib Lake 27-32. Stratford was led by sophomore runner Bill Kaiser. Kaiser’s time for the 3 mile run was an impressive 18:10 which established a new high school record.

60 years of service

The Stratford Lions Club celebrates 60 years of service to the community. The first meeting of the club was on September 20, 1939 and was held in the dining hall of the Zion Lutheran Church with the charter night for the new club on October 17 with a large group in attendance.

Tiger Stadium gets new lights

Tiger Stadium will seems a lot brighter for the 2000-2001 football season. The Stratford School Board approved the purchase of the new lights at their meeting. The lights will be purchased and stored before being installed by Bob’s Electric next summer. MARATHON JOURNAL

Finds Weather Balloon

While hunting in the neighboring woods, Gerart Wadzinski was fortunate to find weather scientific equipment, property of the University at Duluth, Minn. It was sent on a balloon to gather information about the upper atmosphere. Wadzinski returned it to the Duluth University. The equipment was dated December 6, 1966.

Elementary Council

The elementary school student council meeting was held. Student representatives are Paul Bursik, Steve Southworth, Mike Barnes, Russell Hilmerhaussen, David Southworth, Bruce Hurtis, Renee Otto, Mark Muelbeck and Steve Hodgis. Mr. Perrodin is the advisor for the student council.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1974

FHA-FFA Honors

Marabeth Rusch, daughter of Mrs. Bette Rausch, has been elected FFA Chapter Sweetheart at Athens High School. She will be given a FFA jacket and be a guest at the FFA banquet later this year.

Dennis Strunk was elected FHA Big Brother for the year. Other nominees were Kenny Gauerke, Keith Bergmann, Kim Kottke and Rick Boris. The Big Brother is an honorary position in FHA. He will receive an ID bracelet and he and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Strunk, will be guests at the FHAbanquet next spring.

Edgar Homecoming

Homecoming festivities have been going on all week and will conclude with the football game and dance Friday evening. The homecoming parade, with floats made by classes and organizations, will take place Friday afternoon. The band, homecoming court and cheerleaders will also take part in the parade which will be held in downtown Edgar. Mary Jo Lenard was chosen queen of the homecoming and Rick Beidel is the 1974 homecoming king.

Bank of Edgar president named

Kathy Rhyner, banking industry veteran with 29 years of experience in all areas of banking, has been named the new president at the Bank of Edgar. “I see the Bank of Edgar as part of the village community. The bank doesn’t do well unless the village does well.”

Uekert will celebrate at Rib Falls

Shirley Uekert of the Town of Rib Falls will be honored for her forty years of faithful service as organist at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Marathon. The congregation will be hosting an anniversary potluck for Uekert after the 10:30 service.

Athens VFW

The Athens VFW Andrew J. Sutter Post met in the Athens Fire Hall with Commander Marvin Reuter presiding. It was noted that to date the Post has eighty-five members.

1999 – Runges host Marathon County meeting

Ron and Lavone Runge, owners of Brighton Beauty Farms, gathered with their family for a photo during the annual Holstein Association daylight meeting held at their farm in the Town of Wien.
