Edgar’s varsity volleyball team lost a tough first set, 30-28, to Rib Lake in Thursday’s home match. It was the last set the Wildcats would lose to the Lady Redmen. Edgar won the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-15 to win the match.

Junior Ella Baumgartner led Edgar with 15 attack kills. Sophomore twin sisters Makita and Naquene Ellenbecker and senior Emery Borchardt added 10 kills apiece. Junior Kaitlynn Hartnady and Naquene Ellenbecker paced the Wildcats with four ace serves each.

Senior Grasci Yonker and Naquene Ellenbecker led the Wildcats with two blocks apiece. Hartnady paced Edgar with 36 digs while freshman Carina Seubert added 14. Junior Addyson Nowak led the team with 27 pass assists and junior Brandi Halverson had 18.

This year’s Wildcats squad is comprised of four seniors, four juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen. Senior Chloe Mellenberger said the difference in ages hasn’t affected the team’s chemistry this season.

“It’s honestly better than we ever could’ve imagined,” she said. “We were all so close this summer. We were all good friends coming into this season so the chemistry was already there.”

Edgar head coach Evan Krebsbach echoed Mellenberger’s thoughts.

“You can mix and match these girls with whoever and they just get along,” he said. “They are just goofy, silly and chatty. They are all into something in common, I mean they are just really great girls. The seniors have been really great with the freshmen but the freshmen also have the personality to hang with the seniors.”

Edgar’s volleyball squad had a 14-9 match record as of Monday.
