Junk hunting for treasures

Three years ago, my children and I started junk hunting for the first time because I wanted to find free treasures to sell and make extra money.

I drove the truck that I still had at that time around the village of Stratford the day before village cleanup in the spring of 2020, searching for good items that residents were throwing away on the curb.

Three years ago, a Stratford resident saw my daughters and I looking through her junk on the curb and she brought us a nice guitar and makeup kit.

It just so happens that I met my girlfirend a week later and she also loves junk hunting. She even began junk hunting in the village of Stratford before I did.

Last Wednesday night, my girlfriend and I drove all over the village of Stratford in the dark searching for treasures on the curb before the fall village cleanup.

I rang a Stratford resident’s doorbell to find out if a large framed photo of a European water fall that was leaning against the back of his truck in the driveway was actually being thrown out. He told me to take the picture along with anything else that I wanted.

The horizontal framed picture was 38 inches wide by 45 inches long and it didn’t fit inside my small car even with the back seats down. Therefore, I placed the picture on the roof of my car and my girlfiriend and I needed to stick our arms out of the windows to hang onto the picture until I got home.

I researched the framed pictured and discovered the photo was painted by artist Fuente De Los Poetas, and it is being sold on Amazon.

Other treasures we found were a heavy Everlast punching bag and two brand-new looking large area rugs along with newer queen and twin bed sets. I also found a few treasures that I want to keep for myself including a big rack to hold my shovels, rakes and other garden tools in the garage.

On Sunday, I sold an extra small refrigerator and freezer. I am now selling a nice small countertop dishwasher that works well, but I figure that I can part with it because I’m washing my dishes by hand anyway.

I will continue to look for free treasures on the curb in the future.

As it’s been said, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure!
