Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to the Athens library branch for these 30-minute programs. There will be reading, singing and other literature-based activities on Mondays, October 23 and 30, 10:30-11 a.m.
Senior Card Group
The Senior Citizens card group met on October 12 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Three games of Sheepshead were played. Andy Hoef won the first game and Steve Klockziem took second place. Tommy Ellenbecker won the second game and Bitsy Ewan took second. Alvira Henrichs won the third game and Henry Faber took second. David Perrodin received low score.
Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
E dgar Women’s Club minutes
The Edgar Women’s Club met on October 10 at the Edgar Village Hall. Twelve members and one guest attended.
Theresa Kramer, president, opened the business meeting. Audrey Kamenick gave details on the Book and Bake Sale coming up in November. A signup sheet to work was distributed. Judy Berg, secretary, related the activities in the library. The Marathon County Library is comprising a recipe book. Residents of Marathon County may bring recipes to the Edgar Public Library.
Thank you cards were written to honorary members of the club. The traveling prize was donated from Diane Laessig. It was won by Alisha Kramer. The door prizes donated from Theresa Kramer were won by Nanci Schllinger, Deb Gauerke and Sharon Braunel.
The club members filled Halloween bags for the story time children meeting at the Edgar Public Library. The next event is the Book and Bake Sale on November 3, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Edgar Village Hall. New members are always welcome.
Trunk or Treat
St. John’s Trunk or Treat will be held October 29, 2-3 p.m. The event is open to the community. Attendees are asked to bring a canned good item for the Circle of Joy. Contact Jenna Martin at 715-218-7170 or jennamartin6@gmail.com with questions or to register a trunk.
M arathon HCE minutes
Rib Falls HCE met October 11 at the home of Terri Steinke. Refreshments and desserts were served.
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and Creed I. Roll call question was “What Halloween candy do you eat first?” All members were present. The secretary’s report was read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved. Club membership dues were collected.
The group’s Christmas dinner/ party is tentatively scheduled for December 13, 11:30 a.m., with location being determined. It was discussed to continue having Secret Pals. The prizes for Christmas bingo will be brought by each member.
The next meeting will be November 8 at the home of Gloria Kreager. The song that was sung was “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover.”
The meeting adjourned with Creed II.
For the HCE community service project, members filled treat bags with treats. They were delivered to a local nursing home after the meeting.
The game that was played was “Name the commerical ads.” All members received prizes.

Storytimes will be on Thursdays, Oct. 19 and 26, 10:30-11 a.m.
Farmers market
The Marathon City Farmers Market will run every Thursday from 2-6 p.m. until October 26. The market is located in downtown Marathon at 400 Main St.
S tratford Trunk R Treat and Carving Contest
Zion Lutheran Church is sponsoring the Trunk R Treat on October 31 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. by Klemme Park. Everyone is invited to participate by dressing up and decorating a truck.
New this year, Zion is partnering with the Caring For Others organization from the Stratford High School with a Pumpkin Carving Contest. Finished carved pumpkins must be brought down to Klemme Park by 5 p.m. on October 31. Entry fee is a canned good for the Stratford Food Pantry. Two prizes each will be awarded to three different age groups. Voting will be done during Trunk R Treat by money donations for their favorite pumpkins. Money received from voting will also be given to the Stratford Food Pantry.

MCPL Escape Room
All ages can participate in a Halloween-themed escape room at the Marathon County Public Library’s Stratford Branch, 213201 Scholar St. Open October 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and October 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free, but registration required. History Speaks The Marathon County Historical Society History Speaks program for October will be about the recently released U.S. Federal Census from 1950. In this presentation, Scott Norrick will reveal his findings and insights from reviewing and analyzing the census data for not only Marathon County, but also how the results compare to other communities. The presentation will be on October 28, 2 p.m., at the Woodson History Center, 410 McIndoe St., Wausau, and also available afterwards on Facebook and YouTube.
