thursday, march 1, 1973 Forensic students present fine program The 1973 forensics run-off was held at Stratford High School on February 22. Those selected in the run-off will participate in the sub-district contest at Stratford High School on March 9 at 12:30 p.m. Representing Stratford in the following categories are: Extemporaneous speaking: Bob Zoellner and Kerry Brandt; Fourminute speech: Doreen Kuse and Kathy Lassila; Original oratory: Wayne Winistorfer and Carol Lassila; Public address: Angie Gliniecki and Cheryl Ulrich; Significant speech: Kathy Kaiser; Declamation: Pete Gliniecki and Evelyn Dooge; Reading of prose: Lori Ulrich and Debbie Aldrich; Reading of poetry: Julie Clatterbuck and Michelle Wood; Play acting: Cindy Wiesman and Anita Reno.
Judges for the local contest were Mrs. Wisnewski, Mr. Wood and Mr. Zander.

wednesday, March 4, 1998 FHA competes at regionals On Feburary 28 the FHA-HERO North Central Regional STAR Events Competition was held at Marshfield Senior High School. Thirteen area schools participated.
There are seven regional contests with over 2,000 students participants.
Receiving golds and advancing to state from the Stratford FHA Chapter were Mandy Ploeckelman and Jenny Stockheimer for Chapter Service project; Heather Zuelke and Danielle Schulta for Illustrated Talk and Katie Leick for Job Interview.

thursday, march 1, 1973 Athens FBLA officers installed at ceremony Officers of the newly organized Athens High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America were installed in a candlelight ceremony last Tuesday evening, February 27. The installation ceremony was conducted by the Mosinee chapter.
Preston Smetlzer, FBLA State Adviser, was the featured speaker. Leona Marshel welcomed the members and guests. Linda Nehrbass and Carla Kottke introduced the charter members and Ann La Belle read the FBLA creed.
Newly elected offiers of the Athens chapter are: Linda Nehrbass, president; Debbie Weidenhoeft, vice president; Carla Kottke, secretary; Rhonda Luetschwager, treasurer; Laurie Matysik, reporter and Don Becker, student council representative.

wednesday, March 4, 1998 Edgar plant is sold The vice president of a southeast Wisconsin cold storage company said Tuesday that his firm has an accepted offer to purchase the closed ConAgra beef packing plant in Edgar.
Mike Pokel of Geneva Lakes Cold Storage, Darien, said he expects to close on the deal March 16. He declined to report the purchase price.
Pokel said his company hopes to lease out space in the Edgar facility to a food processor as well as service northern Wisconsin clients with cold storage. The facility will not be used for animal slaughter, he said.
