Marathon gives offer for final piece of land
Last parcel needed for frontage road
Marathon Village Board members reconvened from closed into open session during last Wednesday’s meeting to vote on giving John Candy LLC a purchase offer for 5.498 acres of land it currently owns north of STH 29. This property is located east of the segments of parcels of land and buildings the village bought from the Kramer family in May.
The John Candy LLC property is the final piece of land the village needs to own so it can construct a frontage road between STH 107 and 152nd Avenue in the new north of STH 29 business park. Village board members also voted to hire Steigerwaldt Land Services in Tomahawk to appraise the 5.498 acres of land currently owned by John Candy LLC.

n Jeff Rachu attended last Wednesday’s village board meeting to request the village open its streets to people riding ATV/UTVs on them in the future. Andy Kurtz, Marathon village administrator, plans to research the topic and the village board agreed to have ATV/UTV use on village streets as a future meeting agenda discussion item in July or August so village board members can make an informed decision.
n Kurtz told the village board Kory Gertschen, Marathon police chief, informed him he received a call that there is graffiti and vandalism on the bottom of the STH 107 bridge. Kurtz looked at the bridge structures himself and confirmed the graffiti and vandalism. He’s going to contact the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) to find out if it’s the DOT or village of Marathon’s responsibility to clean up the mess.
