Raider girls take second

The Marathon varsity girls cross country team finished in second place at the Smiley Invitational, hosted by Wausau East, on Saturday. The Edgar girls, meanwhile, were right behind Marathon in third place.

Marathon senior Jada Prihoda took third place in 21 minutes, 38.6 seconds; senior Laci Hoeksema sixth in 22:43.4; freshman Shilo Blake seventh in 23:02.0; senior McKinnley Marks eighth in 23:13.2; senior Camryn Sapinski 12th in 24:31.0; freshman Addie Molepske 13th in 24:32.3 and junior Kali Prihoda 14th in 24:47.1.

Edgar junior Gretchen Brewster took 10th place in 23:31.4, junior Kira Stack 17th in 25:24, junior Ella Morse 18th in 25:25.0, junior Brooklyn Schwoerer 19th in 25:31.0, junior Amber Skrzypcak 25th in 26:25.8, freshman Aubrey Behling 26th in 26:31.4 and sophomore Rebecca Werner 27th in 26:36.3.

The Marathon varsity boys cross country team finished in fourth place at the Smiley Invite. Athens and Edgar didn’t have enough boy runners for a complete team that scores points.

Marathon sophomore Jacob Smith took fourth place in 17:49.6, junior Jaron Gage seventh in 18:06.4, sophomore Derek Vesely 20th in 19:23.6, junior Ian Blake 24th in 19:45.9, sophomore Dylan Dodson 25th in 19:47.4, senior Noah Fritz 29th in 19:56.6 and senior Owen Marks 40th in 21:16.3.

Athens junior Nathan Wolf finished the race in 18:10.1, sophomore Andrew Schaer in 18:37.4 and senior Brooks Kraus in 19:39.6. Edgar junior Ethan Sondelski ran the race in 22:16.5 and freshman Issac Halma in 22:55.1.

Stratford race

Both the Stratford varsity boys and girls cross country squads took second place at its home race on Sept. 14. Rhinelander won the boys race and Athens finished third. Mosinee won the girls race.

For the boys, Nathan Wolf of Athens took third place in 18:44.70 and Andrew Schaer was fourth in 18:50.00. Stratford freshman Cree Defoe placed sixth in 18:58.57, freshman Ethan Heeg ninth in 19:15.41, junior Lance Krieg 11th in 19:22.89 and senior Brett Bangart 13th in 19:39.41.

Brooks Kraus of Athens finished 14th in 19:43.65 and freshman Nicholas Pittman was 16th in 20:06.61. Stratford freshman Derek Wiese took 33rd place in 22:29.59.

For the girls, Stratford freshman Kayla Casperson took fourth place in 22:07.42, freshman Breleigh Skaya sixth in 22:16.83, junior Ella Heidmann seventh in 22:23.51, senior Sarah Zuelke ninth in 22:44.43, senior Lydia Goldbach 11th in 23:10.52, freshman Samantha Mielke 19th in 24:21.01 and junior Lexie Christopherson 26th in 25:15.09.

Athens freshman Brianna Sheahan took 13th place in 23:25.35 and junior Addyson Zettler was 24th in 25:01.74.
