Clark County Health Department announces Friend of Public Health award

Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. Public health systems are commonly defined as “all public, private, and voluntary entities that contribute to the delivery of essential public health services within a jurisdiction.” Health departments cannot do this work alone. The success of public health programming heavily relies on the support and advocacy from our partners.

TheAmerican Public HealthAssociation (APHA) observes National Public Health Week annually during the first week of April. This is a time to celebrate public health successes and join together to address key health issues that impact how we live, work, and play. Each year, the Clark County Health Department (CCHD) recognizes individuals and/or organizations as recipients of the “Friend of Public Health” award.

This year, the CCHD is proud to recognize Kelly Meyer, school nurse at the Colby School District, as the 2025 award recipient.

Kelly Meyer’s contributions – Kelly has worked directly with the CCHD to coordinate health services to students and staff.

– Kelly provided seamless coordination of the 2024 mass influenza vaccine clinic. These clinics require extensive planning and present logistical challenges.

– Kelly has gone above and beyond, actively outreaching to the CCHD to coordinate county-based educational presentations, and support services and programs for students.

– She was an asset to the CCHD’s community conversation providing valuable insight into how Clark County can improve child care, mental health, and access to safe and healthy foods for those ages 0-18.

– CCHD staff have directly observed Kelly’s positive interactions with students.

“Kelly is extremely supportive of every student who walks into her office. It is moving to see firsthand how much the students trust her. I know she will continue to do great things!” stated Kelsey Wussow, CCHD lead public health nurse.

The CCHD would also like thank all of its partners who have contributed to promoting health in Clark County.
