Neillsville winter sports teams enjoy successful season


The Neillsville School District’s winter sports programs experienced success over the past few months, with several athletes performing at a high level in their respective programs.
For boys basketball, Andrew Hoeser got first team all-conference and Landon Rakestraw got second team all-conference. The boys basketball team finished their season with a record of 9-5 in the Cloverbelt Conference– East.
For girls basketball, Sydney Subke got first team all-conference. Madi Davel, Gracie Schoengarth, and Braelyn Anding got second team all-conference and Jessica Kuhn received honorable mention.
The girls went undefeated in the Cloverbelt–East with a 14-0 record.
The Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal (NGL) Wrestling team concluded a season marked by numerous individual and team achievements, including a historic first for the girls program and a state runner-up finish for the boys.
Brynn Heck made history for NGL girls wrestling, becoming the program's first-ever regional champion after securing first place at the Wautoma regional. This achievement followed her groundbreaking victory at the conference championship in Spencer, where she clinched the 114-pound title, and became the first female conference champion in NGL history. Heck’s season culminated in a third-place finish at sectionals.
The NGL boys team also saw significant success at the conference level. Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt and Jakob Luchterhand emerged as conference champions. Mason Anding, Adam Kautzer, and Jackson Meyer added to the team’s accomplishments by securing second-place finishes at the conference meet.
Three NGLwrestlers advanced to the highly competitive state wrestling tournament. Meyer and Luchterhand delivered strong performances, narrowly missing out on medals by just one match. Sebesta-Opelt capped off an exceptional season by earning a second-place finish at the state championship.
