WRAPPING UP PROJECTS IN THE THE ART ROOM

As the first half of the school year comes to a close, students are wrapping up a variety of projects. Kindergarten is right in the middle of one of their most challenging projects of the year: weaving! First graders are learning how to draw delicious 3D cakes in the style of pop artist Wayne Thiebaud. Second grade students are wrapping up a lesson on contrast through the lens of contemporary artist, Mike Perry, and then rolling into the monster drawing lesson where they will become published authors and illustrators! Third graders are using mushroom drawings as a basis for their printmaking project. The fourth grade students get to work in the dark under black lights while they complete their neon paper weavings while the fifth graders focus on op art drawings and kumihimo bracelets. Both grades learned about diameter and radius while using compasses to draw circles.
Sixth and seventh graders are just about wrapped up with their art survey after completing a variety of projects such as dragon eye sculptures, bracelets in the style of Wampum belts, and abstract artist research and paintings. Introduction to Art has finished partnering with students in Ms. Vann’s Spanish classes to write and illustrate a children’s book. They are currently finishing pencil drawings and a final choice project for the semester.
Yearbook has completed almost half of the book so far. The current yearbook is for sale as well, online at the School District of Spencer website. All books are $55.
SENIORS: Don’t forget to turn in your senior photos, senior quotes, and childhood/baby photo for the yearbook and the graduation slideshow!
The dual-credit digital photography class comes to an end with multiple students receiving FREE college credit for its completion! Art club will be visiting Clay Corner in Wausau in early February, where they get to select and paint a pre-made ceramic piece.
In the community, you can begin to see student artwork featured on display at the Marathon County Public Library–Spencer Branch. Communication will be sent home if someone you know has artwork displayed here. Keep an eye out for upcoming events offered by Spencer Art Club.
