Greenwood library hosting intermediate crochet class

The Greenwood Area Public Library will be hosting its second mosaic crochet class this year for those who have some experience with the art form and want to further their abilities.

“If you took the first mosaic class offered in January, this February class is a step up from there, in that you will be working with three mosaic patterns on one project!” instructor Pat Bell wrote in a press release.

The class will be held on Fridays, Feb. 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Participants will be crocheting a lap blanket with measurements approximately 41 inches by 55 inches.

There is no cost to attend; however, participants must provide their own materials. Each participant will need: a. Hook: anywhere from 4 mm to 4.5 mm b. One bull nose/blunt nose needle (used for Swedish weave if you choose to add that to your blanket) c. One sewing needle (has a sharp end and is metal) with a very large eye (used to weave in ends). No plastic crochet needles. d. Scissors e. Three colors of worsted acrylic yarn (no bulky/large/heavyweight yarn, and no black or very dark colors). You will need between 2,600 and 3,100 yards of yarn. You will need the most of your base color. (Also, using a variegated yarn in mosaic projects adds even more dimension, pattern, interest, and depth.)

This class will use the pattern learned in the January class with two new patterns added. Participants will be working with the mosaic charts in the development of their own personal blanket design.

Participants should note this class is heavily driven by homework.

“You will not be able to finish the blanket if you are only crocheting during class time,” Bell wrote.

Participants must register to attend, as space is limited. For questions or to sign up, call the Greenwood library at 715-267-7103.
