Donations sought for N.C. hurricane relief

Donations are needed to fill a 20-foot trailer with necessary items for hurricane relief in North Carolina Appalachia. Many people are still living in tents and need outdoor gear to survive the cold.

Cowboy Dave Graham with Hurting Hearts Ministry (HeartsHurt.com) is serving in Swannonoa, N.C.

“He and his crew of dedicated Christians bring much-needed supplies every day to the desperate and destitute, funded primarily by our ministry here in Marshfield through the Remnant Fellowship and Pass the Salt Ministry (CoachDaveLive.com),” explained Ray LeBlanc, donation coordinator, in a press release.

LeBlanc will be delivering a trailer full of items to Swannanoa around Jan. 15. The trailer is stationed at Hiller’s True Value Hardware on Central Avenue in Marshfield. People can drop off donations now through this Saturday, Jan. 11.

Items most needed are: – Bibles – Batteries (AAA and AA) – Flashlights (good quality) – Wool socks – Winter coats (new) – Boots – Generators (small) – Empty propane tanks (20-gallon) – Empty gas cans (will be filled in North Carolina) – House insulation rolls – Utensils, pots, pans and silverware – Cleaning supplies – Dish and laundry soap – Personal hygiene items – Small portable radios – Sleeping bags, blankets and comforters – Power tools – Extension cords – heavy duty – Rubber floor mats – Other basic necessity items Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. “It’s vitally important to these people because it’s devastating. It’s beyond our imagination what they’re going through,” said Loyal resident Ken McEwen, who is assisting with the donation effort. “Many of them are isolated up in the mountains, with no way to get in or out…If it was us, we wouldn’t be afraid to accept help.”
