Curtiss Corners Quilt Club meets
Curtiss Corners Quilt Club met Monday, Nov.18at6:45p.m.intheCurtissCommunity Center.
Roll call was conducted by polling members on predicting date of first snowfall measuring at least 0.5 inch. A prize is awarded to the person closest to the actual date without going past the date of snowfall. It was a quick contest since the area received 0.5 inch of snow less than 48 hours later on Nov. 20.
The club’s 2025 community service project will support the Clark County Humane Society (CCHS). Club members are sewing pet bandanas, which will be for sale with 100% of proceeds donated to CCHS. Along with bandana sales, there will be donation drop boxes to collect supplies CCHS needs. If you are interested in purchasing a bandana or donating supplies, follow “Curtiss Corners Quilt Club” on Facebook for information on sale and drop-off locations.
The club is working on a group project to create a centennial quilt to be given to the City of Owen in August when it celebrates 100 years. Quilt blocks will reflect Owen’s logging history, railroads and Yellowstone Trail.
In this month’s demonstration, club member Bev Brandl created snowmen using felt, batting and cardboard insert from fabric bolt. Directions and templates were provided to members interested in making the snowmen.
Monthly Tip: Use tools wisely. When rotary cutting, start with the blade about 0.5 inch up on the ruler, then cut it back to the tip and then cut forward.
“If you always start cutting at the tip, the tip of your ruler will get chipped away from the blade over time and no longer be square,” says Linda Pumphrey, quilt designer and teacher The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m. Curtiss Corners Quilt Club is on Facebook. Check it out for club news.
