So far the ‘24-25 school year is off to a great start of art making! Students K-12 are creating a variety of art projects with many different materials. Kindergarten is working on fine motor skills with drawing, outlining and cutting.

First grade learned about texture with their alebrije drawings.

Second is mixing paint to make tints, shades and tones. Third graders are using viewfinders to draw enlarged pictures of flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe.

Fourth grade is learning how to draw spheres using coloring techniques with colored pencils, and fifth grade is wrapping up their geometric paintings in the style of American artist, Frank Stella. Students in grades K-5 will be able to see their artwork on display in the LuCille Tack Center for the Arts art gallery this December.

Middle school is working on printmaking and learning about the elements and principles of art.

The high school introduction to art class is completing their pop art paintings in the style of Peter Max and the dual credit digital photography course just completed doing photographs of our homecoming week.

Yearbook students are still narrowing down this year's theme, and the ‘23-24 yearbook was just distributed at the homecoming pep assembly. We only have 14 books left from last year, so get yours now! The current yearbook is for sale online as well, at the School District of Spencer website.

All books are $55.

On Oct. 16, Art Club will be hosting its annual craft night for kindergarten, first and second graders. For $10, students will get a snack and will make three different art projects to take home.

Art Club students are raising funds to support two field trips to Clay Corner in Wausau and the Pablo Center in Eau Claire.
