As the high school cross country season advanced into its third week, local teams converged at Colby High School for a meet this past Saturday. The Sept. 14 meet felt more like summer than fall, with temperatures in the 70s by mid-morning and the topping out at around 83 degrees.

Many Loyal-Greenwood (LG) runners saw improvement from the week before, as they stared to find their groove. The following are their results.

After taking sixth at her home meet the week prior, Summer Smith once again cracked the top 10, this time 10th out of 47 female runners with a time of 22:00.8, five seconds faster than her previous race. Bailey Eckes took 24th place, with a time of 24:41.1, which was also about five seconds faster than the Loyal meet. Noelle Teschner claimed 39th place, finishing in 27:39.8.

On the boys’ side, Andrew Lavengood claimed 12th place out of 52 runners with a time of 19:13.3. He was followed fairly closely by Lucas Nielsen, who shaved more than 30 seconds off his time from the week before and made it under the 20-minute mark. Nielsen took 15th place with a time of 19:52.8. Lincoln Smith finished in 48th with a time of 24:00.1. Mason Kohnert took 50th at 25:03.3, nearly two minutes faster than his previous time of 26:52.91.

Spencer The Spencer Rockets also participated at the Colby meet, with three boys and three girls competing. For the boys, Camdyn Vogel was the first Spencer runner to cross the finish line. He placed 39th with a time of 21:45.8. Oscar Chan and Henry Glamm took 51st and 52nd, respectively, with times of 26:20.9 and 27:45.1.

On the girls’ side, the Spencer runners hung together. Tahneya Anderson took 44th place at 28:52, Savannah Wilke took 45th at 29:48.1, and Ariana Krueger took 46th at 29:53.3.

Neither Spencer or LG had enough runners participate to register a team score.
