State Capitol trip once again a highlight of fourth-grade year

Wow! They say time flies when you’re having fun and in this case, fourth-grade must have been having a blast because this year has flown by! It’s crazy to believe we are in the final days of our school year and even harder to believe that the students we are looking at currently will soon be the top dogs of the elementary school!

In math class, we’ve kept busy learning different strategies in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as fractions, geometry, and data analysis. We’ve played WorkPlace Games and solved mysteries along the way to help practice our skills. During Number Corner time, the students worked with partners to solve problems and then presented their findings to their classmates, as well as extended the math we learned during math class time. We’ve really grown a lot in math this year.

We’ve had quite the adventurous year in reading -- “traveling” the world and adding stamps to our passport collection and making many reading memories along the way. AR Contests have become an exciting tradition in fourth grade reading and this year’s team did not disappoint with how they persevered through every challenge. We ended our year with a pirate themed AR Contest and made Mrs. Eckes “walk the plank!”

The fourth-grade field trip to Madison is a memorable experience students look forward to every year. This year the trip was especially special as it has been canceled the last two years due to COVID protocols. The students had a blast in Madison and learned a lot about our state history, government, and the capitol. The weather cooperated and we were finally able to enjoy some nice spring weather while making lasting memories with our classmates and family members who joined on the trip.

We want to extend a huge thank you to our fourth-grade parents and grandparents who made the trip an amazing day start to finish and the PTA for financially contributing to the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade trips. Additionally, we’d like to thank the Spencer community for supporting our trip through our Can Cage and Mike and Denise Bodendorfer for generously taking care of emptying our Can Cage. Without your support, this trip would not be possible!
